Pros – Large scale operations: Where 100 machines is a small group, and 10,000 QPS is sneeze-worthy.
smart people: There's always people and experiences to learn from
internal [horizontal] mobility: Want to change jobs b/c your current one is boring you? There's always another division you haven't worked in yet.
Cons – Siloing: groups don't always communicate cross-function very effectively.
neophilia: Because it's new, it's better.
Not-Invented-Here: We wrote it, it should be used over anything that wasn't made by us.
"Bring out your dead!" "I'm not dead!": Internal tools marked 'deprecated' that never get properly replaced.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
