Pros
Flexibility
Mobility to move within company
Strong company with much traffic still driven to front page
still on cutting edge of technology
Cons
Not being able to monetize the amt of traffic better.
The recent wave of people jumping ship makes for a bit of a moral killer.
Advice to Senior Management
Get the word out about Yahoo, truly how good we are as a whole, not just the parts that are valuable in Wallstreet's eyes. Only when the heavy negativity stop will the talent drain slow down.
Pros
Perks, People, Growth, Job Functionality. Work life balance
Cons
No direction to the company
Pros
nice life/work balance.
smart people, many resources, can learn a lot.
Cons
uncertain directions, no good sign of turn around, lose many smart people.
Pros
no stress, work/life balance is good. gym is nice, i miss the free towel service there. oh, and bean tree drinks are awesome too
Cons
no way for junior engineers to provide feedback to either the product, or engineering efforts. you get treated like a robot who's sole responsibility is to translate a spec to code.
Advice to Senior Management
stop moving furniture in the house and start building new, useful things.
Pros
Great perks, relaxed culture, quarterly hack days, internal hack days, work with and learn from some of the best people in the industry, several weekly tech talks, free coffee bar, gym, basketball court with good competition, lots of employee resource groups
Cons
The only downside that I perceive is that Yahoo! isn't the media darling it used to be, and everyone from TechCrunch to Wall Street bashes on Yahoo! all the time. Stock price could be A LOT better.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep fighting the good fight; keep employees motivated, and reward them for doing well! Do better at identifying top talent and nurturing, stimulating, and retaining that talent.
Pros
Great benefits, nice campus, nice food options, people are friendly, you get to work on some relevant technologies, nice company events
Cons
Very low employeer morale is taking a toll on those who still want to work here, Upper management gives the same raa-raa speeches will little to back up the talk.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to stop trying to convince its own employees that Yahoo is on the right track. Nothing succeeds better than success.
Pros
Despite decreasing public sentiment and poor earnings, Yahoo! is still a great company to work for. The majority of the employees are very bright and really enjoy working here. Although the perks may not be as lavish as Google or other top tier companies, they are still among the best perks of any company you will find. Yahoo! makes a real effort to make their employees feel comfortable and to bring out the best in them.
Cons
Financially, the company is slipping. This is causing jobs to be less secure and certain perks to be downgraded or eliminated. There does seem to be a slight bit of panic in the air. It's not problematic enough to cause most employees to worry, but there is an increasing sense of urgency that things needs to get turned around sooner rather than later.
Pros
Unique culture that promotes both playing and working hard. Employee perks are fairly generous. Yahoo provides employees with resources to aide in professional development and growth. Yahoo is one of the leading digital media companies and is recognizable everywhere.
Cons
Budgeting constraints get tighter each year and lead to some compensation levels to be below fair market value and affect overall morale. Some members of leadership team who make the money decisions don't have a clear picture of what they are pulling money from.
Advice to Senior Management
Transparency on how you want the business to be run and what progress is or isn't being made within the company is key. People can't do their best work when they can't trust in their employer.
Pros
Smart people, great depth in their field
Good work/life balance
Potential for work having far reaching impact
Cons
Very large company - things move slowly.
Orgs suffer from either total lack of process, or are smothered in process.
Pros
none that I could think of, other than great medical insurance. oh and they do have a bauer shuttle from SF, if you care to find out everything that is going on with your colleagues while you ride.
Cons
everything -- the company is a mess, the leadership sucks, the CEO is horrid.
Advice to Senior Management
go away already!
