We will try to do our best to improve that turnover rate. As you observed, it is very difficult to keep fresh and invigorated when there is so much unmet need. Keep up the great work and thank you ... More

It has been very challenging to stay positive

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Yakima, WA

    ProsThey have decent insurance coverage

ConsMany workers feel their input is not respected. Upper management asks for feedback through surveys but do not follow input from line-staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally listen to the line staff. Their input can be quite valuable.

    Great place to work!

Recruiting Director (Current Employee) Yakima, WA

ProsI have worked for YVFWC for over 7 years. The reason I have stayed at YVFWC is because of the tremendous impact we have on the underserved communities we serve. The patient stories we hear about from time-to-time describe their positive experiences with our staff and providers. We are often the only opportunity for healthcare for many people in our service areas. the other thing that has kept me here is the quality and commitment of our healthcare providers. We have many very well-trained providers who choose to work for us because of the patient population we serve and the quality healthcare we are able to provide. Hearing the stories of our providers and why they choose to work for us is inspiring and motivating.

ConsBecause YVFWC has grown quickly we lack adequate administrative space.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlan for growth strategically.

    Focus: mission, patients, staff

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Yakima, WA

ProsI work with ivy league providers that have dedicated their lives to service of those who need it most. My coworkers are kind, professional, and inspiring. Supervisors are thoughtful and welcome feedback. This organization has gone through a transformation in the recent past and now very much follows it's core values: trust, integrity, transparency, justice, joy and courage. This organization is one of the best nonprofit health care providers I've ever had the pleasure of working for.

ConsThe need of our patients will always outstrip our ability to serve them. It can be frustrating to not be able to do more for our communities. Also, because the work is so important, we often put in long hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementTransparency is difficult, but your bravery and honesty are well appreciated.

    Good people bad management

Systems Technician (Former Employee) Toppenish, WA

ProsDecent pay and benefits. Room to move up if you are willing to play the games.

ConsBad management with questionable ethics and business practices. Micromanagement is the tool of choice and is used without reserve.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou don't know it all and you should quit pretending that you are not the problem. High turn-over is not a sign that you are doing a good job.

    Disorganized with unrealistic expectations

    Analyst (Former Employee) Toppenish, WA

ProsLocated in a beautiful area of the Yakima Valley within driving distance of nice wineries and also within a decent driving distance to Chinook Pass and Mt. Rainier.

ConsBig disparity in income gap. Thread bear middle class between high income and working poor. Housing is more expensive than in like communities in other similar US farming locations. Organizationally speaking, YVFWC seemed disorganized and their expectations for this demographic area are unreasonable.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to update their criteria with regards to education vs experience as well as past achievements. The archaic theology that a degree equals ability is long pasts its prime and current studies confirm past achievements coupled with special skill sets are a better indicator of possible future performance. Mandating a degree for non - management roles inhibits current employees from seeking growth opportunities within the organization and lends higher propensity to attrition. Most companies now look at past achievements, experience and special subject matter expertise along with educational achievements in order to diversify their workforce skill sets and provide a stronger overall talent base within the organization. The commonly held education to experience ratio is currently 2-3 years experience in skill set specific criteria to 1 year of college coursework.
