I have been working at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many nonprofits suffer from attracting staff that have passion for the mission but little talent. Not at YVFWC. The caliber of people who work here is impressive. The organization demands a lot from its employees, but that's because there is so much unmet needs. Pay and benefits are very generous. The HR department is also very impressive. They are responsive, understanding, and solution-focused. (No, I don't work in HR). I don't have many opportunities to work with the CEO, Carlos Olivares, but when I do I'm re-inspired to do my best for our patients and the people we serve.

    Cons

The culture is a little dated, very top-down, and often inflexible with work hours for salaried employees.

I have been working at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic full-time

    Pros

The salary is competitive for the location.

    Cons

Significant micromanagement issues, inefficient workflow in nearly every department, and an absolutely critical communication challenge both within a single department as well as interdepartmentally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Capitalize on your current investments and employees before growing further. Improve efficiencies, communication, and support your employees; growth will come naturally. There's a reason that only three to four people in a department of 45 have lasted more than four to five years.

    Pros

    They have decent insurance coverage

    Cons

Many workers feel their input is not respected. Upper management asks for feedback through surveys but do not follow input from line-staff.

I have been working at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked for YVFWC for over 7 years. The reason I have stayed at YVFWC is because of the tremendous impact we have on the underserved communities we serve. The patient stories we hear about from time-to-time describe their positive experiences with our staff and providers. We are often the only opportunity for healthcare for many people in our service areas. the other thing that has kept me here is the quality and commitment of our healthcare providers. We have many very well-trained providers who choose to work for us because of the patient population we serve and the quality healthcare we are able to provide. Hearing the stories of our providers and why they choose to work for us is inspiring and motivating.

    Cons

Because YVFWC has grown quickly we lack adequate administrative space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Plan for growth strategically.

I have been working at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I work with ivy league providers that have dedicated their lives to service of those who need it most. My coworkers are kind, professional, and inspiring. Supervisors are thoughtful and welcome feedback. This organization has gone through a transformation in the recent past and now very much follows it's core values: trust, integrity, transparency, justice, joy and courage. This organization is one of the best nonprofit health care providers I've ever had the pleasure of working for.

    Cons

The need of our patients will always outstrip our ability to serve them. It can be frustrating to not be able to do more for our communities. Also, because the work is so important, we often put in long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Transparency is difficult, but your bravery and honesty are well appreciated.
