Work was fine but supervisor was not

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI got to conduct research that I wanted to do. I was given space, but some times too much so.

ConsThe supervisor was not considerate or compassionate, just cared about deadlines and due dates.

ProsYale University was a great organization to work for. Everyone is very mission driven. There was a lot of work-life balance, and the benefits were amazing!

ConsThere were a lot of politics. There was not a lot of upward mobility, I had to hope someone would leave or retire in order to be advanced.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop playing politics.

Money is great, lots of opportunity for leadership development.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe pay is great, the community is healthy, and the University truly cares about it's employees. President Salovey will make it an even better university.

ConsVery bureaucratic, every manager has to ask their manager before anything can get done.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive divisions more autonomy. Let those in charge, be in charge, and give them the resources they need to be successful.

    Good work experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDiverse, bright faculty and employee community. It is an ambitious, motivating environment to work within. Retirement and insurance benefits were good.

ConsHR processes are sometimes painfully slow and not as efficient as one might expect. Sometimes, departments seem more divided into individual teams and less unified than one might hope. This likely varies greatly depending on the available funding and leadership of the department (particularly for research).
