Pros

Cons

Advice to Senior Management
work for the company and not for self
Pros
Great benifits
A great oppurtunity for over time and to make money
Some bonus's were given when the company did well
Cons
Coming from a maw and paw type of setting, trying to make it to a japanese operated company
some of the employees are hard to work with
Advice to Senior Management
Take the time to learn your employees and actualy take into consideration some of their ideas
Show the employees that they are an important part of the company or that they are an asset and not just a worker
Pros
They have a very good benefit package. People working there are down to earth and fun to work with. They provide huge employee discounts on company products such as piano and motorcycles. Management is good as far as taking care of employees. If you work as an engineer or marketing person, you would have an opportunity to test ride the products you develop and it is fun. The company makes ATV, Golf car and Water Vehicle.
Cons
Manufacturing company does not really provide a big raise. Especially, Japanese companies are known to take good care of employees with good benefits but they don't give a huge monetary compensation. Seniority seems to be considered for promotion rather than performance. Management is good but can be improved. It is hard to get promoted to management positions since the parent company in Japan keeps sending expatriates to those positions.
Advice to Senior Management
The company should give more empowerment and opportunities for locals to get ahead. Innovation comes from variety of opinions and diversity.
Pros
The job is fun and had quite a bit of travel and testing that I liked to do. I was also given a lot of freedom to develop my own test programs.
Cons
I worked a large amount of overtime with no additional compensation. The managers in the office were in constant disarray and did not get along with each other. Office was socially divided depending on your manager. I never had set goals or direction.
Advice to Senior Management
Yamaha needs better internal organization in the US and better leadership. Employees need set goals and direction. Their leaders must be able to set direction and take charge. Also NA should be given a certain amount of credit and responsibility instead of always being the step-child of Japan.
Pros
Decent pay of $14.11/hr. after 3 months of fulfilling reasonable "satisfactory" requirements. Training is usually very thorough and it is very rare to be "left in a lurch" though it does happen. Management is extremely communicative, often calling employee meetings to explain downtime (or overtime) and when work flow and hours are expected to be back to normal. Quarterly bonuses ranging from $200 to as much as much as $800.
Cons
As an assembly job it is very very monotonous. Depending on the area you are assigned to you may have very little to almost too much to do within the time limit (which was 2 minutes while I was employed). Moving to different areas during the first few months was far too often for my taste, though this may be a pro to some. Hours can be shaky, over time can be excessive at times (58 hours per week is usually the absolute maximum). Actual employment has been unstable (as of 2009), with only 4 months worked out of 6. Temporary unemployment is given.
Advice to Senior Management
Requested reasonable changes from employees regarding their workstation could happen more quickly, as this can be critical in comfort, safety, and work flow efficiency. Communication regarding vacation time left and attendance/performance could be more forthcoming.
