I have been working at Yankee Candle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fast growing company, great leadership team, the culture is very vibrant and transparent.
There is plenty of room to grow as an individual and the work environment is amazing.

    Cons

"Busy season" can get really busy.
As in any large company, one department may not be aware of what another is doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure everyone knows what the goals (long term and short term) are and how they can impact them. Convince people why they make a difference to the company if they don't already know it.

I have been working at Yankee Candle part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The store has a small footprint, so you're not running all over the place. The displays are simple to set up. It's very enjoyable to converse with customers and help them choose their favorite fragrances. I don't mind 'upselling' as it's such a simple product to sell! 50% discount on wax for associates.

    Cons

Since you're on your feet the entire shift, the ability to wear sneakers would be hepful! Plantar Faciatis is VERY common among retail workers and this would HELP greatly!

I have been working at Yankee Candle part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Culture, at least initially, values people and is very positive. Good product and customers seem very happy with their experience in the store. The training is very thorough; they make sure you know what you're doing before you're turned loose in the store and there is a lot to know.

    Cons

Retail salary just above minimum wage and varied schedule so hard to know how much you'll bring home. Many quietly disgruntled workers who can make life difficult. The work can be exhausting - the store is 90k square feet and walking around it all day when it's busy is quite a feet (no pun intended) People take the work very seriously - not much of a sense of humor anywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With such an investment in training, seems raising the hourly wage would make sense to retain people... seems a shame to have people leave after all that time and effort.

    Pros

Best reason to work at Yankee Candle is the customers, who isn't happy when they are shopping for candles. Fragrances are fun and make people happy, whether it's for themselves or for others.

    Cons

If you work hard you can move up, but to get any further past a manager is a challenge. Some store managers and district managers are willing to teach you what you need to know, some aren't as willing and like to take credit themselves. Depending on the district you are in the experience can be amazing.

I worked at Yankee Candle part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You get 50% off all wax like candles and tarts, you get additional off if a customer returns a burned candle, they bring in a lot of cool accessories and knick knacks during the holidays, the store is very inviting.

    Cons

The secret shopper was ridiculous, they lay out a very specific way to approach and greet customers and you have to sample fragrances with all of them. Some people font even like being greeted and would rather shop on their own. You have sales goals even if you're not commissioned and in such a little store, its like the associates fight for every sale to bring up their ADS. I wish they could have more permanent positions available instead of seasonal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lower the prices on your candles 30 dollars is excessive, take away all the rules for greeting people and not forcing associates to be pushy
