    Pros

    - Employee discount
    - Most corporate office staff is very helpful and efficient

    Cons

    - The Secret Shop is my absolute biggest con EVER. There are way too many detailed steps, and we were all terrified 24/7 that we would fail! Customers do NOT want to be spoken to about half of the things we MUST say. You can do a fabulous job managing a store for as long as you will, but the second you have a failed secret shop it's as if you just ruined the entire district.
    - Payroll for store staff based on dollar amounts. (People making more per hour will have to get less hours, so do they really make more?)
    - Not enough payroll for double coverage typically for 6 hours at a time. Single coverage in a store in the mall is NOT safe nor is it ethical
    - The hiring process for a new employee takes forever, and firing someone who isn't working out is nearly impossible!
    - The POS system is 100% outdated and in need of a change right away
    - The constant coupon & deals emails are too much. Yankee Candle turned from a premium candle brand into a way cheapened brand. These constant deals and sales attract Bath and Body Works leftover trash customers
    - They are all about home and family, but if your mall gives them the option to open Thanksgiving Day, you 100% must be there, no questions asked. I had to eat Thanksgiving Dinner at 1pm and leave my family to sell to the inconsiderate customers who came in on Thanksgiving Day.
    - If a Store Manager happens to quit, be fired, or transferred to another store, the Assistant Manager will have to perform the Store Manager duties, at their same unchanged hourly rate, for a good 8 weeks until they hire a new one.

    Advice to Management

    - Get rid of Secret Shop right now! If you check out other Glassdoor reviews, we ALL mention Secret Shop! Take a hint.
    - Listen to the feedback a Store Manager has about an employee on their staff. If a certain person is not working for us, don't make it so hard to get rid of them! You make us jump through hoops to get rid of them, or tell us we need more "evidence", but then get upset when that person brings store numbers down
    - Stop making stores open Thanksgiving Day! I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say that this is an absolutely appalling business tactic!
    - Do not expect so much in terms of Grassroots Marketing from store management. We have more than enough to handle within our 4 walls, but now there is a big emphasis to go beyond and waste our time with Grassroots

    Pros

Great loyal customers and beautiful product. Low employee turn over.

    Cons

This company has been bought and sold too many times. Each new owner cares less about the employees and more about making a dollar.

    Pros

Great customers and a passionate environment. Products are of good quality. True managers are great to work with, be wary of the ones that are only out for themselves.

    Cons

Work life balance is non existent, as with most retail management positions. Sometimes unrealistic sales goals and secret shops are stressed to the point of exhaustion. For those that take pride in what they do, hearing nothing but negativity for doing your best is very disheartening.

    Advice to Management

Be real. If you cannot make the goals and shops, how can you hold others accountable. District managers are good, but do not know anything about the product... Store managers tend to be on a high horse and two faced. This is their livelihood, they are out for themselves. Dont be surprised when you are tossed to the side.

    Pros

Great discount, good pay, and wonderful products.

    Cons

Unrealistic sales quotas, short staffed stores during busy times, rude upper management (regional managers). Sales were not good and did not improve. The company raised prices, which sent loyal customers to competitors. Stores closed and the regional complained to us about other stores.

    Pros

Yankee Candle has a great work environment. The job itself is not demanding but it is fun and I have always worked with great people.

    Cons

This job starts and minimum wage and does not go up much from there. It can also be very slow in the off times such as Summer or after Christmas.
