Pros
yellowbook is a very forward looking company and has been receptive to the transitions in the market. They have also been very responsive to employee needs. On eof the only companies to raise salary and lower objectives to ensure sales people can achieve desired income. A v ery supportive company. Like any successful company they have objectives and standards. People that put forth the effort will be very successful. Those that don't have the drive and desire to be successful won't!
Cons
The sales climate has become a little more challenging with economic issues and industry transitions as is with most companies. Obviously it takes a little more effort and skills to maintain your level of success.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep driving towards the future. you have a lot of support from the vast majority of the employees
Pros
Local management ok/ team is nice
Cons
Upper management doesn't know what they are doing/ flip flop/ no strategy/ introduce products that aren't ready to market/ no support for reps/ tablets n softwear are years behind
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of all the excess/ quit over promise n under deliver/ be consistent with your reps/ don't focus on strokes. Joe is gone- fired by parent company yell
Pros
Company Morale is great, there are many opportunities for bonuses and extra time off.
Cons
Sometimes Sales is a bit misleading to customers. Then we at corporate had to deal with that.
Pros
Culture is great and the management staff works well together
Cons
Large company, so if you don't like a large company this isn't for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work! It's a great place to work.
Pros
Work close to home, not terribly micromanaged, there are products to sell, good support from my team mates, good benefits
Cons
Not great office support, have to put out a lot of fires, particularly with the newer products that often don't get set up properly
Advice to Senior Management
Could be more empathetic, sales isn't easy and there are some issues that we can't and/or shouldn't have to fight. There are some important issues that arise that they don't realize are important and do nothing about. I want my mangers to fight for what's right and if I'm complaining about something that can't be changed or I'm wrong about it's ok to tell me that too, I can respect that if I know they're at least sometimes willing to battle for me or my teammates.
Pros
Lots of freedom if you hit your numbers. Good compensation and benefits. Great products compared to the competition. Not a lot of travel required.
Cons
Yellowpage industry as a whole is dying, maybe 10 years left. Print product has a bad perception with customers. Our customer service department is very sub-par.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep adapting and adding new products as print is slowly dying. Improve customer service department. Need to keep employees more informed with new products coming out.
Pros
Great coworkers, for the most part
Pay and benefits not bad
Comfortable work environment
Understanding mid-level managers
Cons
Sales team is maybe pushed too hard - it shows in their bad attitudes
Pay in creative and search marketing departments is way less than at other companies
Pros
You make your own schedule for the most part. Lots of holidays off, vacation, insurance is good. Your co-workers are usually nice.
Cons
management is AWFUL!!!! I wouldn't even call it mangement. Unrealistic quotas, badgering about not hitting this goal or that goal. When you do hit a goal, very little praise or congrats. PRESSURE COOKER, do NOT take this job if you don't like pressure to hit goals because they are on you like hawks.
Advice to Senior Management
REALLY take a look into your locations across the US and see what managers are doing well, as told by the employees in that office. Perhaps have a review of how well management is doing because there are many talented people that work for YB and they are not able to grow in their roles.
Pros
It is a very good job compared to all the other sales jobs out there. Excellent pay, good benifits, you name it. But you do have to work hard. What did you expect? It is a high paid sales job. Me I would not have it any other way.
Cons
You are held responsible for the irrational decisions of your clients.
Advice to Senior Management
provide anonymous data on the performance of fellow employees in similar markets for personal benchmarking. e.g. first year reps have wrote X amount of new business on average....
Pros
1. Very few office meetings
2. Good compensation
3. An ever-growing array of products gives a rep many directions to take a client
Cons
1. An ever-growing array of products gives a rep tons of prepping and planning to do, and it makes it difficult to focus on any one thing
2. Lots and lots of driving
3. A large part of the job is bill collecting
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more people. Designate certain reps for revenue retention and other reps for new account sales. It's become increasingly difficult to spent sufficent time prospecting while still meeting the needs of existing clients.
