Mid-Market Account Executive

Mid-Market Account Executive (Current Employee)

I have been working at Yelp full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAwesome Commission Structure
Great Product to Sell
Excellent Training
Big Name Resume Builder
Great Upward Movement Opportunity
Fun Group of Employees, Managers, and Directors
Weekends Off
Full Paid Benefits
Reward Trips

ConsEasy to get burnt out
High turn-over
"Day-in Day-out" gets real

Advice to Senior ManagementCan be very "what are you doing for me know" minded. Some reps put in years of hard work that can be over shadowed and forgotten

Low pay, but fun experience.

Marketing Intern (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Yelp as an intern for less than a year

ProsNetworking opportunities. Great name to drop on your resume. Got to dine at so many restaurants on the Yelp dime. Paid internship!

ConsLow pay! I know it was an internship, but my 16-year-old cousin was making more money than me while I worked with Yelp as a 23-year-old intern. Training was focused on Yelp specifically, not marketing in general.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more direct about future job outlooks.

Great product but they just don't seem to care about their employees.

Linux Systems Engineer - Production (Former Employee)
San Francisco, CA

I worked at Yelp full-time for less than a year

Pros1. Great product with an amazing future.
2. Some of the smartest people you will ever meet work at Yelp.
3. They do offer 30 days to opt our of their "Dispute Resolution Policy" upon starting. I encourage everyone to do so.

Cons1. The way HR and management interacts with employees brings the term "Digital Plantation" to mind.
2. The company seems to have the HR and management processes of a 10 person start up although they are now a large publicly traded company.
3. This company just doesn't care about employees and does nothing to create a culture of empowerment.

Advice to Senior Management1. Get to work on your HR and management processes.
2. Care about your employees.

Fun people to work with. Felt very exploitative calling clueless business owners and pressuring them to buy advertising.

Account Executive (Former Employee)
Scottsdale, AZ

I worked at Yelp full-time for more than a year

ProsColleagues, free beverages, plan lots of fun extracurricular activities.

ConsStress, management is inexperienced. Like working at a fraternity party; sex, drugs and rock n roll.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive employees time to develop before putting them on performance plans. Some people can sell in the smaller less tech savvy markets, while others can't. Try to judge on a curve. However yelp has so many people lining up to work for them all the employees are completely expendable. So they can afford to fire at will and the smallest sign of not hitting your quota

ProsGreat benefits, fun atmosphere, good teamwork.

ConsNoisy workplace, young personalities at play, slightly lower pay than what I prefer, no relocation included

Call center with virtually no opportunity for long term growth.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Yelp

ProsGood training program, good benefits.

ConsSelling an overprices CPM program that won't help 99% of business owner.
Total chop shop. No control over territories and if you miss quota for a couples months you'll be out of a job.

Great team, enjoyed working there.

User Experience Designer (Former Employee)

I worked at Yelp as a contractor

ProsGood hours as I worked remote. Lots of innovation. Other designers there are great to work with. Certainly moving towards a design driven company.

ConsAs a remote worker, would have been nice to get out to the office more often.
