Pros
Relaxed enviornment - good people- hard dedicated staff
Cons
Downtown parking / commute is costly
Advice to Senior Management
Suggest more discussion regarding career advancement next steps to avoid loss of talented employees.
Pros
The salary is really above what is offered in comparable positions in this area (PNW). Health care isn't too bad (for the time being); it went from great, to terrible, to somewhere in between in the last few years. There is a nice amount of reimbursement available for relevant classes taken.
Cons
Almost zero possibility of ever advancing, training for another position, or any type of career improvements whatsoever. People stay where they have started, for years and years (those who can tolerate insanely long hours, and haven't been laid off yet due to the infogroup acquisition).
There is a large amount of disrespect shown to employees by upper management, who, although aren't generally technologically proficient themselves, manage to find infinite ways to nitpick and criticize trivial matters while people who actually work are trying to do their job.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize potential and drive in employees; provide incentives for those who have put in a great deal of time and commitment into their work. There are knowledgeable staff leaving or wanting to leave because otherwise they are stuck in their current positions with no hope of advancement.
Also, as an additional note to management, a simple 'Thank you' goes a long way.
Pros
Yesmail is an innovated company, really trying to push their products and employees to the next level. Everyone is very competent and great to work with.
Cons
The sister companies under Infogroup, that Yesmail works with are, are bloated with inefficiencies. These teams need to be modified to match the pace the online marketing space demands.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing. Yesmail is a great place to work for and moving in a great direction. Hopefully the sister companies won't bring this burgeoning company down.
Pros
If it wasn't for the team I worked with, I would have left much earlier. Learn to handle a lot of responsibilities in a short amount of time. Fast pace.
Cons
Not appreciated by management or rewarded. Only time that they give you a raise is if you show them an offer letter.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire from the bottom up. Email managers do a lot of work so stop underpaying them and trying to hire cheap!
Pros
Compensation at Yesmail is great. Great bonus program. Vacation time is great. (Minimum 3 weeks)
Great corporate culture, fun teams to work with.
Cons
Employees are expected to work very long hours. Don't be suprised if you are working until 9-10pm and on weekends.
Senior management seems to be pretty distant from Satelite offices, rare visits from managers.
Being a subsidary of a larger company (InfoGroup) often means getting things done is slow, equipment requests, expense pay outs etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Be closer with your satelite offices. Take notice, Yesmail exists outside of the walls of the Portland office.
Pros
The field of interactive marketing is an exciting one and there is a lot of high energy here in the company with great camaraderie. Management style is highly collaborative and hands off. You are trusted to know your stuff and are given free hand to do it.
Yesmail expects its employees to perform - that's why they are hired in the first place. Management does a pretty good job of culling dead weight. This means that those that work here aren't shouldered with the burden of taking on the extra work left by lazy co-workers.
Cons
The health care package is absolutely abysmal - but that's the fault of the parent company, infoGROUP. High deductible ($4000 per year!!), high monthly premium, and you pay FULL PRICE on all prescription drugs *until* you hit your yearly deductible.
The 401k plan is ridiculous too - but what do you expect from the same team at infoGROUP that brings you the health care package? All the funds included in the plan are the worst performers in their class.
Advice to Senior Management
Yesmail is moving full speed ahead regardless of the parent company. Keep putting the pedal to the metal. Stay aggressive, stay enthusiastic, and keep rewarding your employees for the hard work they do.
Pros
The majority of the people there are very professional and pleasant to work with.
Downtown location
Bonus structure.
Products are very flexible and powerful
They remain profitable
Cons
Long hours and Lots of late nights with little recognition or thanks.
Really sucky benefits
No mentoring or career path coaching.
Bonus plan changes for no apparent reason.
Advice to Senior Management
No unified management view. Need to create a vision, foster teamwork and create a better culture.
Pros
great location in portland, right on the green line and bus mall, good view from the office, tea and coffee service in break rooms.
Cons
Between march 09 and june 09 this company fired 3 systems administrators, 1 programmer, and its tech support manager. this company goes thru employees and throws them away. sr management is doomed by group thinking and doesn't listen to technical advise. this is a miserable place to work. think twice before quitting a job elsewhere to work for this place. very long hours on call and dealing with inadequacies that have accumulated over time.
Advice to Senior Management
fire most of the mid to mid-senior level management most of it is dead wood. analyze employee treatment and adhere more carefully to labor laws to stay out of trouble. split off from infogroup they are dragging yesmail down.
Pros
Solid organization with good growth prospects.
Cons
infoUSA benefits package needs improvement.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing, other than getting better benefits (health/medical) than infoUSA currently offers.
