Not much investment on skills and development training of contract/part-time employees.

I worked at York University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very nice medical coverage policy, for dental and prescription, which is called CUPE plan.
Security of job and a good balance in the workload.

    Cons

Red tape: there are a lot of formalities involved and you have to plan for every move well ahead of time... My work was at times hindered because of the waiting for the approvals from management which could take months.
Another drawback is the campus safety which is a matter of concern.

I have been working at York University

    Pros

    The benefits are not bad

    Cons

Jobs are very narrow; no room for growth. If you're looking for advancement, you'll have to leave.
There are policies in place but don't expect management to actually enforce them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The whole university is characterized by administrative inertia. Senior administrators know the problems but unfortunately the culture there prevents anyone from doing anything. Instead they form working groups and committees to make it seem like they're addressing the problems but in reality nothing ever gets done.

I worked at York University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Wonderful staff, great working environment, good benefits and competitive salary. I got to work from home a lot which provided a good work life balance. I think it really depends what department you are working for and if you are in research the professor you are working under.

    Cons

Location - feels unsafe and hard to get to

I have been working at York University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Paid well, nice people. We are given a 20k scholarship if you go in with an A average. If you are not, the tuition isn't that bad, unless you are an international student. If you are an international student, you pay triple the tuition.

    Cons

School was hard. Work-life balance was difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more funding to the stats department. We try really hard with what we have. They cut more funding because we keep trying harder to meet the goals, and when we meet them they cut it more.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
