I have been working at York University as a contractor

    Pros

Flexible hours, good pay for student position

    Cons

Bad Management as instead of fostering a learning environment rather feed to a toxic culture

    Advice to Management

Need to improve by training and learning from other industries and implement a friendly work atmosphere. Treat Employees with respect instead of looking down at them.

I worked at York University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Support staff are helpful and pleasant.

    Cons

Not enough time to develop accounts. You’ll be fired just as sales start to come in.

    Advice to Management

It is unethical to: Charge clients differing amounts for identical services Fire AE’s to convert their accounts to non-commissionable house-accounts

I worked at York University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture in the organization was informal and relaxed environment with good benefits including opportunities for career and academic advancement. Excellent pension scheme.

    Cons

Very conservative and surprising although innovation was preached their IT infrastructure was poor for the central administration. My attempt to change things were met with strong opposition by some of the senior folks whose knowledge of technology was limited. Some of the infrastructure i recreated during my short term with them are being used long after leaving the organization. I was surprised to observed that a reputable educational institution has very inefficient staff human capital management system and kept inaccurate data that made it nearly impossible to management the function for which i was employed. The hated any collaboration with Unions even if it is for their mutual benefit.

    Advice to Management

Advice management to get rid of staff who are not willing embrace innovation and technology that is aligned to the university's strategy to attract and retain talents to its administrative staff group.

I worked at York University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The university has some pockets of great teams and enlightened senior management, but these are the exception.

    Cons

Poor management driven by self-interest and preservation rather than by delivering high quality education and ancillary services. There are many incompetent middle managers who thrive because they do little and don't expose major dysfunction within the institutions. Students suffer with poor services and often, misinformation that directly impacts their lives. The budget situation is dire - they are facing insolvency in 2017 unless drastic changes are made at the institution.

    Advice to Management

Replace 90% of your management teams - they are failing the institution.

It was a very good experience for my working there because I worked a lot of hours during the week.

It was a bad experience for me working there because I had to work overtime during the weekends and on weekdays

    Advice to Management

Please allow breaks during the winter seasons because its very cold in Canada. Also, workers should get flexible hours during the year
