Pros
This is the happiest I've been at a company in my entire career. You can just feel the positive energy in the air and can see management actually doing things to prepare for a huge surge in 2012. Recently brought on a great CMO from Oracle and CFO from Netflix. Both left considerable unvested $$$ on the table to come here which should tell you something.
Cons
Being that the company is moving there are processes that are still being hammered out. But one should expect this with a company that is growing so rapidly.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep making strategic and thoughtful hires at the exec level. CEO could be more visible in the office. And how about some redbull in the fridge! :)
Pros
Good restaurants, decent location, some good employees and lots of parking space.
Cons
This place is a highly cut throat and political environment. Most of the upper management is clueless on what it takes to run a company. Management is not capable of running this company and is driving it down the drain. Employee dissatisfaction is at its peak. Morale is very low and upper management is directly responsible for this. It is not a technology driven or results oriented company. All management and products cares about is only the end date and they don't care on how it is achieved. It does not even matter if engineers are burnt out and resign. Engineers are just replaceable physical bodies without any value attached. No plans for profitability or IPO and they give you a boat load of crap trying to boost morale that is not there. The technical debt there is huge and the architecture is pathetic but no one pays attention to it. Weekly releases with such a horrible architecture is killing people. Management is extremely egoistic and self-centered and only care about themselves. CEO talks about doing charity when his own company folks are suffering. The attitude of the upper management towards engineering has to be seen to believe.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire the upper management that are killing the morale. People are your biggest asset and don't drive them crazy. If you can't run a company then sell the company and let people lead a decent life.
Pros
Salary and benefits are nice. Mid-level employees are great people to work with.
Growing company with lots of opportunity.
Cons
Management changes their mind every other week as to what the company's goals and market strategy will be.
CEO is invisible. Says one thing at a company meeting and then says another at the next meeting.
Lots of fighting and politics among senior management. Management not on the same page.
Very sales and engineering oriented company. If you're not part of one of these departments your perceived "value" to the company is insignificant.
What they told me I'd be doing and what I ended up doing were completely different.
Lay people off without any explanation as to why to the rest of company, which certainly keeps you on your toes.
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out what your strategy is and stick to it for at least 6 months. Decisions need to be made up top, communicated to the company, and departments mobilized to acheive the decided goals.
Stop worrying about competitors and worry about your business. Successful business will take care of the competitors.
Pros
Great team of people to work with - smart, hard working and highly collaborative. The business is growing and our future is very bright. Customer loyalty is high and we get great feedback on our products. An intense but super exciting environment. Overall, a fantastic place to work.
Cons
Long hours but work is stimulating and business is growing so worth the effort.
Pros
Huge growth and lots of moving parts, if you are creative and ready for a fast paced environment this is a great place. You have the opportunity to make a difference and lots of freedom to make things happen
Cons
There are tons of things going on so you must be ready to strap your seatbelts on and be in for a good ride. Its all good just takes the right kind of person who isn't looking for a boring and static job.
Pros
Terrific people and management, all the way up the the executive staff
Very social and down to earth culture. Everybody is friendly
No politics. You kick butt here, and you will be recognized and rewarded. The opposite is true too, which makes for a very elite organization.
Cons
If you're looking for a boring 9-5 job where you can hide in the corner, this isn't the place for you. YouSendIt has a start up culture, is very agile and dynamic, and there are a million opportunities to exploit and there never seem to be enough people to do everything we want to do. There's a lot of hard work and everyone is held accountable for their responsibilities, but it's a rewarding and exciting ride.
Pros
The environment is very positive, growth is very rapid, and there is a real willingness to listen to new ideas. Like half of the people here I've been here less than a year, but there is a clear sense that professional management and more mature structures are being installed as we grow.
Cons
Like any fast growing company, there is a lot to do and resources are always tight.
Advice to Senior Management
Be accessible, practice MBWA, continuously communicate to energize people with the shared vision and priorities.
Pros
Very fast paced environment, things happen very quickly and you need to be on your toes at all times. Because things are moving so fast, you reap the rewards of your hard work right away. Instant gratification.
Cons
Not the right place for you if you do not like fast moving and high growth companies. Things happen quickly, and you need to be able to react fast. Because of this, work can be stressful at times.
Pros
The work is challenging and sometimes difficult, but efforts are well recognized and rewarded. The people working here are top notch and everyday is a growing experience. Along with the hard work is a great couture of fun. Rapid growth is exciting to see and be a part of. You can get a real feeling that you make a difference to the company. Contrary to what other have said no one has ever forced me to work more than I want, and time off is easy to come by. YouSendIt have even given me time to deal with family matters and handled those problems far beyond my expectation.
Cons
There is a lot of pressure and sometimes deadlines can be unrealistic, but nothing over the top for a start up company.
Pros
Creative, challenging and fun place to work. When you work with talented people it makes you proud to be a part of the success. We get to try all the products and give our input before it goes to market.
Cons
We move at a fast pace with little training. It would be helpful to have more training programs in place and the time to get up to speed.
Advice to Senior Management
We are great at acknowledging employees when they do a great job, but we should say it even more. Senior leaders listen to your ideas and it's very rewarding. Keep it up!
