I worked at Young Life part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Encouraging environment with high potential of personal growth. Also, many fun opportunities and long lasting friendships. Opportunities to make a lasting impact in people's lives.

    Cons

This is a high energy, up tempo environment, sometimes employees can be over looked by upper management. This can be a very tiring job as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great community and environment. Awesome values and a great organization to be a part of. Wouldn't recommend anything higher.

    Cons

Very time consuming, but if you are supposed to be doing this, that shouldn't be a problem!

I have been working at Young Life full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been with Young Life over 16 years, now, and volunteered with them for 12 years prior to that. They really care about kids, leaders and adults who support the ministry. The work environment is refreshingly professional. I have worked for a Fortune 500 energy company, a national charity organization, and a handful of mom and pop companies. Young Life has been my favorite place to work, by far. They really care for their employees, and their health benefits are as good as they get.

    Cons

It's hard to think of any cons. I suppose sometimes working on a tighter budget could be one of them. But, that just forces you to be more creative.

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Young Life as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Incredible environment, outgoing staff willing to help with any need and providing assistance. As an intern, they provide different development, spiritual and professional, and seek to help you in the two months you are there.

    Cons

Internship seemed too short, but basically because you want to stay there longer. Other than that, as an intern, not a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

There aren't many jobs where your first part of business is your personal health which includes spending time with Christ. The community is wonderful. The work is rewarding. Wonderful ministry to work with.

    Cons

Can be a never ending job. Must learn to balance work and life or what either truly is.

I have been working at Young Life full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of interaction with very friendly people. You will make more friends in this job than you will anywhere and you will meet people from all over the world. They also have incredible benefits

    Cons

long hours, upper management is completely out of touch with rest of the mission, low pay. Prepare to have your work life and home life merge

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better care of the entry level employees. They are truly the ones who make the organization work. They are the ones out there day in and day out. Stop creating position after position in the corporate side instead give some pay raises to people who really deserve it

    Former Employee - Area Director

I worked at Young Life full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

You will work with the best people you could ever hope to meet. The community of staff is incredible and impossible to find elsewhere. The leadership genuinely cares about the staff and wants them to succeed. Every day is different and you get the opportunity to do a lot of different things. You truly can make an impact in your community and for the kingdom of God.

    Cons

The work-life balance can be awful, but that goes for any ministry. You have to be really intentional about your time. There isn't much room for growth once you become an Area Director. The pay structure is not the best and they really don't care well for staff when their area is in deficit. In many ways they throw you out there to fend for yourself and it can feel like you're on an island with little support. I think they want to help but sometimes don't know how.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care for your staff better. Your people are your most valuable resource and you should treat them that way.

I have been working at Young Life part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

While serving as a volunteer provides no compensation, the excitement and joy of working with kids and other leaders is rewarding enough. My job is basically to be a friend. Friendships are awesome. It's how you build great memories.

    Cons

No pay as a volunteer (but that's not why we work here anyway). As far as a résumé goes, it's not the most useful "experience".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the work/job experience resemble more of a real-time job as best as possible.
