Pros
-Really fast paced working environment
-Very supportive and productive work culture
-Success is recognized and praised
-Work is meaningful because it's work for a cause
Cons
-Sometimes there was a lot of ambiguity in job
Pros
Front - lines mission
Organization mission driven for 60 years
Training is great. All field staff are put in a position to use and develop executive level skills from day one.
Benefits are great.
Famiy is valued.
My job has purpose.
Cons
If do not have a good regional director this job can be difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Input from Area Directors and other field staff should be a larger part of how Regional Directors are evaluated. If an RD is mistreating staff there are currently very few avenues to report, most data seems to be what an RD reports themselves.
Pros
Great community workplace with a lot of flexibility to try out different positions. Top of the line benefits, which makes up for the lack of pay.
Cons
You dont' get paid too much. And you have to deal, from time to time, with outrageous requests. Sometimes you're isolated because you work in rural areas.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't be afraid to lay down the hammer just because we're a ministry. Evaluate people based on their professional performance, not whether they're nice or not.
Pros
Very flexible work schedule. Lots of chance for relational development
Cons
The pay is low for the amount of work.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop calling them interns. Also staff associate is not much better.
Pros
The people. It is very hard to find a better group of people to work with. Also the benefits are awesome. What can be better than a all staff conference in Florida every four years.
Cons
In my opinion there may not be a "clear" development plan for property staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Help staff members stay healthy. Let them know it is ok to take some time for themselves. The summers can be rough and tiring.
Pros
I have freedom of job scheduling.
Cons
too much of a corporate atmosphere. this is supposed to be a ministry.
Advice to Senior Management
there are policies created for everything. it stifles the ability of field staff to pursue kids intentionally- younglife was founded on strategically entering communities, but now everything is s standardized. it's a disappointing departure from Jim Rayburns vision. Failure used to be key to figuring this thing out, risk, fail, risk more, succeed. now failure isn't tolerated, it's terminated.
