I have been working at Young Samuel Chambers ("YSC") Limited
Pros – Great people who are very smart, work hard and go the extra mile for clients.
Quirky, edgy culture that I find refreshing.
Youthful, possibility focused organization with a determination to add real value and push the discipline to new heights
Cons – Low investment in technology - knowledge sharing difficult
Very informal so not the place if you like clarity, structure and certainty.
Advice to Senior Management – Done a great job in creating a vibrant organization. Be courageous in growing the business in Emerging markets and pushing our thinking to even higher levels.

I have been working at Young Samuel Chambers ("YSC") Limited
Pros – The company has a very flexible and generous vacation day package. It is "employee-focused," so there is much attention on work-life balance and personal/professional development. The location (midtown Manhattan) is phenomenal!
Cons – It's a tight-knit community. You have to be comfortable working with a small group of people every day. The business structure is in a development stage, so patience and team-work is a must!
Advice to Senior Management – You have an excellent way of keeping the team energized and excited. Thanks for your positive reinforcement and for providing so much room for professional development!

I worked at Young Samuel Chambers ("YSC") Limited
Pros – * Great personal freedom
* Relaxed, new-economy feel
* intelligent colleagues
* Generous compensation and benefits
* Get to work with some very capable psychologists
* Great learning but in a very narrow field
Cons – * Management team comprised entirely of psychologists - could explain excellent work place, but also narrow consulting opportunities and limited scope for professional breadth
* Projects sound great on paper, but the daily reality is like dentistry: Once you've pulled one tooth, you've just seen the rest of your life at YSC - even if you do end up working in one of their overseas offices
*Socialist mafia: Undue thought-policing about social conscience, global warming etc... can be unpleasant and difficult to stomach if you are not a liberal socialist. Open mindedness is unusually closed to different perspectives on life. There seems to be a belief that there is a 'right way' to think.
* Strong culture - be sure you fit.
* It's a family business: Many members of senior management and the directors and managing directors are married to each other, related, or married to sisters of other directors. Tight at the top - you'll have to be accepted by the family if you're going to get anywhere useful long-term.
* The intellectual capital at the company runs very deep - but narrow. You'll get good, very, very good at doing 1-1 assessments of senior managers, but be careful: If you EVER want to change and do something else, you'll find you've become asset specific, and unemployable in many places.
* Be very careful about joining too young: ideal to join this kind of firm once you're in your 40s and you've gone as far as you want to in a blue-chip and want something different. But if you're in your 20s, stay well clear unless you're sure you want to spend the rest of your life watching other people be successful, while you ask them questions about their adventures, then write it down on a pad, and sent it to them, then read it with them, then send it to their manager, then smile, then do it again...and again...and again...
Advice to Senior Management – None - management has done an excellent job of creating a focused high-quality business that generates cash for shareholders, and that distributes wealth to the employees. There is nothing they're doing wrong at all. Advice to prospective employees is all contained above. Be careful what you join, or rather, when you join it.
