I have been working at Young's Market

    Pros

They are all for internal promoting.

    Cons

Opportunities to move up in San Diego don't come around too often. You'd have to relocate to LA or OC since they are always posting in those areas.

I have been working at Young's Market

    Pros

Great start into sales. However, there is really nothing beyond that unless the alcohol industry is your career path

    Cons

Heavily micromanaged. So much paperwork and micro managing, even if you wanted to sell items they distribute, if they are not on their priority list forget it. This is the single worst company I have ever worked for

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the sales reps sell. Streamline the paperwork and its okay to set goals and expectations, but the extreme micromanaginig that occurs now is not productive.

I worked at Young's Market part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It was a good place to work at for experience in the retail industry

    Cons

This company was a cheap company. They expected you to do more than you were hired to do. Once when they changed ownership, they paid the employees only minimum wage. Don't expect to get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice since the company no longer exists.

    Pros

Work life balance 80% of the time is really good
good place to get sales experience

    Cons

Promotions depend on your territory and things sometimes out of your control
20% the work life balance is horrific
accounts sometimes treat you like garbage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at Young's Market

    Pros

Flexible, Fun social environment. Everyone wants to do a great job and they represent some of the most amazing brands.

    Cons

Early work hours, low salary. Building displays with team members can be difficult especially during the holiday season. If you want to motivate your team, have to get creative because it won't be through monetary compensation. Family owned, so it's tight knit and you make friends and form close relationships with colleagues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on the sales division and compensate employees that are working to make the company successful.

I worked at Young's Market full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good income potential, depending on your territory/DM you have great autonomy. I enjoyed working with my smaller/independent account buyers and helping them grow their wine business. Incentives at times are lucrative.

    Cons

Life/work balance & sometimes unreasonable expectations from upper management are challenging, Expect periodic fire drills. Difficult to utilize sick days. Due to the passage of 1183 in WA and the ability for grocery stores to purchase in bulk meant AM's had littlc control over their accounts and left to the mercy of the centralized warehouse for product delivery.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your benefits package to include maternity leave.

I have been working at Young's Market full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Much improved management training
    - In-touch upper management
    - People come first
    - Upward mobility available (if you can perform)
    - Younger employee base
    - Awesome industry to work in

    Cons

    - Limited positions in upper management
    - Not a lot of diversity in career paths after the sales representative position (currently)
    - Pay is not great, but with supplier driven incentives and overtime, opportunity to out earn your superiors is possible

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work! I have learned more about the industry, sales, and myself in the past year than I had ever imagined I could. The re-vamped training program has made a HUGE difference, so keep up the same thinking and keep challenging yourselves to make training and development better... A salary bump wouldn't hurt either.

I worked at Young's Market full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, great job security, awesome people. Client relationships are very rewarding and you have tons of autonomy.

    Cons

If you are looking to add professional skills, sales trainings, management courses etc to your resume this is not the place to work. They are looking for soldiers, not to grow people. The training system is essentially trial by fire. Dozens of "weekly" initiatives take away from the core goal of building revenue and value with customers on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make clear, long term goals for employees and do not constantly deviate. Clean up supplier funded management incentives so that sales personnel are not being repurposed every couple days.
