I worked at Young's Market full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun company culture, occasional free wine/booze, decent salary and benefits. Opportunity to move-up

    Cons

Long, long, long hours. If you have a good manager then this job can be really fun, but if you get a bad one it is the absolute worst ever. Kind of like any job I guess. The worst part is having to be in the grocery stores super early in the morning, re-stocking the liquor shelves in your dress clothes, and basically being free help to the store clerks who are often rude to you anyway.

    Advice to Management

Have a faster way for people to move up. Or be very strict about not having sales rep stocking the store shelves since it is technically against the law.

    Cons

Work life can get hectic. It's hard work but rewarding if you stick with it.

    Advice to Management

Put people in leadership roles that know their channel of trade.

I have been working at Young's Market full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work life balance 80% of the time is really good good place to get sales experience

    Cons

Promotions depend on your territory and things sometimes out of your control 20% the work life balance is horrific accounts sometimes treat you like garbage

    Advice to Management

promote quicker and pay better or loose your best young talent

    Pros

Flexible, Fun social environment. Everyone wants to do a great job and they represent some of the most amazing brands.

    Cons

Early work hours, low salary. Building displays with team members can be difficult especially during the holiday season. If you want to motivate your team, have to get creative because it won't be through monetary compensation. Family owned, so it's tight knit and you make friends and form close relationships with colleagues.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the sales division and compensate employees that are working to make the company successful.

I worked at Young's Market full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good income potential, depending on your territory/DM you have great autonomy. I enjoyed working with my smaller/independent account buyers and helping them grow their wine business. Incentives at times are lucrative.

    Cons

Life/work balance & sometimes unreasonable expectations from upper management are challenging, Expect periodic fire drills. Difficult to utilize sick days. Due to the passage of 1183 in WA and the ability for grocery stores to purchase in bulk meant AM's had littlc control over their accounts and left to the mercy of the centralized warehouse for product delivery.

    Advice to Management

Change your benefits package to include maternity leave.

I have been working at Young's Market full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Love outside sale, You can work independently. Have fun sales meetings everyone's a team player. Win prizes for the most volume sold in territory.

    Cons

loss of brands! You get very little support from upper management. You don't get the proper tools to work with. I never received my point of sale for my account on time so because of that I loss sales.

    Advice to Management

    Great Management training

I worked at Young's Market full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn lots, it's a great stepping stone if you're looking to stay in this industry. I liked all my co workers, it was very diverse which is nice, sales can often be male dominated.

    Cons

Early hours, but you get used to it. I was very upset when I quit. I really cared about the company and people I worked with. I was the teams all star for 2 years and was trying desperately to move out of the chain division to something I could really challenge myself at, but every transfer I asked for was declined. Sadly, I felt forced to leave if I ever wanted to move forward in my career. I worked my tail off for a 30 grand a year. I left YMCo 5 years ago and this pay is very low, I've been with a few other companies since then and have been paid more than double what they offered.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your sales reps in the field, they're the ones doing all the grunt work.

    Cons

unrealistic goals that just roll downhill, lack of culture and the refuse evolve.

    Advice to Management

get the young and loyal in management positions because the old school throughout process is hurting culture beyond repair.
