    Pros

I worked in the Student Tutoring center through 2010. The schedule was convenient and worked well around my class schedule. The experience looked good on my resume.

    Cons

The pay is very poor and the work is often repetative. You will spend many hours answering the same questions over and over. I really only recommend this if you are fairly patient.

  3. YSU is a university in Ohio

I have been working at Youngstown State University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

YSU exists, it is a university, it is a place where students get a great education (most courses are taught by professors as opposed to grad students).

    Cons

The community resents professors for making "so much money," even though professors here are the lowest paid in the state with the highest teaching load. The BoT doesn't understand academics and attempts to micromanage. Administration ignores the concept of shared governance.

    Advice to Management

Pay teachers more, or at least cut out the requirement to do research.

    Pros

The environment is very pleasant. The people are nice to work with.

    Cons

I was a teaching assistant. The only problem I have would be student non attendance

    Advice to Management

    Good job. Keep it up!!

I worked at Youngstown State University

    Pros

    The flexibility
    Ability to learn
Study time offered on downtime (at least in the departments I was in).

    Cons

Depending on where you work it can vary. For the department I worked in there was a certain professor who always would act as if I was a young child.

    Advice to Management

Management has been fine but where I worked they could use more organization.

    Pros

Great work environment, laid back employees but still get alot of production. Majority of staff members are friendly and the University is working hard to obtain a more prestigious reputation. Jim Tressel is the current President!

    Cons

Top-heavy structure, there are way too many administrators in relation to the amount of employees. Witnessed violations regarding union contracts with no compensation. People can be fired without sufficient notice.

I worked at Youngstown State University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hard-working faculty and staff who care about students. Fairly high percentage of non-traditional students who, in my experience, are generally more serious about their studies than some right out of high school.

    Cons

Some buildings need renovation; frequent budget problems; labor-management climate is not the best.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and consult with the talent within your own university before spending money on outside consultants.
