I worked at ZS Associates as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

People are amazingly friendly and nice. Most of the principals have their doors open and you can walk in and talk to them at any time.
Project work varies and project leaders will usually give you a lot of freedom to take on the project.

    Cons

The work may become mundane and repeat in some cases
Focused on Pharmaceuticals in some of the major offices but this varies depending on the location of the office

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good growth opportunities
Competitive salary and benefits (only in non off shore offices)
Good analytical work (however project specific)

    Cons

    Bad work life balance
Difficult to reach out to senior management (again this is manager/principal specific)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure a better work life balance to your team
Build expertise and expand into other markets
System that enables better feedback from junior team members

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

became good at communication and soft skills esp slide making and crafting emails
learnt office politics and importance of it for career growth
collaborative culture is passed on by Kellogg professors is awesome

    Cons

    1. In an effort to grow faster new managers/consultants are hired from the industry but often they bring their own baggage (kissing up and crapping down) from previous jobs. Even hiring one wrong fit at senior level screws many junior team members who may actually have stayed at ZS

    2. Billing rates are insanely high compared to normal IT companies. People get over this by working 80 hrs but billing only 40hrs.

    3. Partners have become lazy and usually keep high performing managers under them who work like slaves in hopes of becoming partner. Bar for making partner keeps increasing every year. Managers are too hard on teams since they think they put through this and its normal

    4. I miss the ZS where transparency was encouraged . It has now become a political place

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to retain strong people please coach and mentor them. Also set a clear vision on whats important at various level - at times being too analytical hurts because its too complex to communicate to someone..

I worked at ZS Associates full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities to be well compensated if you stick with it. Content of work is interesting. Opportunities for client interaction. International experience may be available. Ability to transfer offices may be available for strong performers.

    Cons

Work life balance is non-existent. 70+ hour work weeks are common. Entry level positions are not given access to all the technology that upper level positions are which makes it tough to be "on call" all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back of on burning people out and more talent would stick around for the long haul.

    Pros

Learned a tremendous amount. Feel that I am much further ahead of the curve than colleagues who went to general management consultancies.

    Cons

Seems that the growth trajectory for employees was becoming more and more artificially stifled as time went on. When the company was younger, off cycle promotions were much more likely.
