I have been working at Zetron full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has weathered numerous downturns in the economy over 30+ years and emerged stable and positioned for growth every time. This is a testament to the great quality staff.....many with 15 - 25 years of tenure and more. Many employees who have left to pursue advancement with competitors have come back.

    Cons

Due to constant adjustments to the changing economic conditions there seems to be a constant state of growing pains. There also seems to always be more work than available hands necessary to get everything done optimally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More and clearer communications from senior management on the direction of the company and more line level decision making authority would help many of the day to day challenges.

I worked at Zetron full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Near home and not located in Seattle

    Cons

This company is really out of touch and very provincial especially the CEO, upper management and HR department. It's hard to believe any company could survive like this. However, that might explain why sales numbers are falling so rapidly, and the company is laying off workers. If you are talented and do quality work, other people within the company, who are in the "special clique", will get the credit . Working there is much like working for a monarchy or kingdom, where engineers are publicly humiliated and fired for sport and entertainment. Think long and hard before considering an engineering job at Zetron.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Kenwood corporation (owner of Zeron) should consider changing the CEO, VP's and HR before it's too late!

I have been working at Zetron full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Before Kenwood bought Zetron and before the original CEO stepped out of daily operations, Zetron was almost a functional company. The second CEO really needed the previous CEO for proper balance, and things stated going South slowly.

    Cons

Once Kenwood bought Zetron, many new and extremely inexperienced and unqualified VP's and managers stepped in. Due to fear within the upper and middle management layers, nearly every manager, VP and even the CEO wouldn't think twice about throwing someone under the bus, including experienced and some very talented people. Working there at that time was the worst nightmare you could ever imagine. Upper, middle management and the CEO protect themselves, while allowing "the little people" to take their blame for serious mistakes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hoping someday the management will experience the pain and suffering they have cause others.

I have been working at Zetron full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the people there are nice to work with.

    Cons

Zetron is dysfunctional on many levels. Unless you are one of the "old timers" (20-years or more) or are part of the "protected" upper management team, your chances of being successful are unfortunately limited. The "old timers" do nearly anything they can to invalidate your work by means of backstabbing. There are many unnecessary layers of upper management, and there have been many layoffs recently but none in upper management. They appear to be a dying company, where many of their customers are now going out of business. Zetron has attempted to move into the direct contact business, but the bigger and better players are winning the contact sales. And, the once strong individual product sales are a thing of the past. Because many of their new system products have been plagued with problems and very late to market, the industry has all but lost confidence in this company -- it's just a matter of time now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of blaming the workers for your problems, start looking at your upper management team.

I worked at Zetron full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company designs, develops and manufactures mission critical communication software for public safety, transportation and utility companies. You are part of an amazing team doing amazing work when you are an employee here. The dress code is business casual attire, the culture is respectful and friendly, there is an open door policy for all levels of mgmt., the CEO is accessible, a lot of positive efforts for employee engagement i.e. CEO Roundtable and employee socials, and there is opportunity for career advancement.

    Cons

Some levels of mgmt. are resistant to change.

    Pros

Great people, slowly but surely moving ahead. Fairly stable and they make a great product.

    Cons

A bit too much of micro-managment. Senior management needs to not think "this is always the way we've done it" and attempt to embrace new ways of doing things.

I have been working at Zetron full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good office location. Better 401K match. Nice HR people, and friendly colleagues at the first impression. Sharp project managers, great contract fulfillment and tech support team. Could be an easy/relax job for someone (who can manage to survive in first couple years).

    Cons

    No personal career/growth path.

No performance review for individual annually or quarterly - not sure what all based on to give a raise/promotion. (it would have to really be fought for!)

Chaos in management. In a small/mid-size organization, too many layers/levels (lead/supervisor for 1~2, manager for a half dozen less, director for a group of 20+) of management/leadership where all your lead/managers are checking status without understanding who is really working on something.

Many legacy in an old fashion prevent from innovation.

No teamwork, individual view/idea are not appreciated (unless for a dictator with strong opinions or a favorite of your manager).

Low quality support from IT with inexperienced staff and slow responsiveness.

Poor test engineering, in both concept and leadership.

Out-dated infrastructure, server/database technologies; lack of engineering tools.

Poorly implemented processes and procedures, in so-called "Agile" methodologies.

Under-average pay, more overtime than needed.

    Politics in R&D .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce layers of management (size won't guarantee success); reward hard-working and real contributors; value individual growth.

I worked at Zetron (more than an year)

    Pros

Casual, friendly atmosphere. Mostly not "level-conscious". Multiple opportunities to shadow other jobs and network at company gatherings like picnics, ice cream Friday's and barbeques. Charitable organization and caring individuals

    Cons

Poor or conflicting direction from management. Characteristics one manager likes, another downgrades. Water cooler politics are alive and well here. No staff meetings in my work pod during my employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to get along with one another and remember you have the same end game. Create job matrix plans for each job. Describe each job in detail so employees know what is expected of them and hold them accountable. Do an individual employee review regularly.
