It's a job, there is a reason for all the turnover in capable technical people

    Vice President IT (Former Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsThere are a lot of intelligent individual contributors. The technology is good but not great. They are a relatively stable company and rarely do layoffs.

ConsBenefits are horrible. Management in technology area leaves a lot to be desired. Everything from tyrants to space cadets. Promotions depend more on social networks than on capabilities.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the benefits and stop promoting morons because they are friends with the CTO. And get a real CTO.

    The HR Department at TOPS

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    West Valley City, UT

ProsThe TOPS organization as a whole has great people.

ConsHow can the HR leadership team be in HR and treat people like underlings. Is HR not supposed to set the example of being Passionate about People!!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementTake some time to look into the poor example your HR leadership team is setting. You used to have some really good people there. How many more have to leave. You say you care about your employees, get someone in HR who does and sets a good example there.

    I've made a career there

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are lots of opportunities for development and/or promotion--I know people who have worked their way from call center agents to uppper mangement. A positive work atmosphere with generally professional, effective team members.

ConsThe model of "community banks" with individual identies and processes sometimes creates complications and confusion that would not be encountered in an organization with a single corproate identity.

    Personal Banker II (Current Employee)

ProsCan do things for clients others can't.

    ConsAntiquated systems really need updating.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpdate systems and expand outside of Houston.

    Take it or leave it

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere's a lot of room to move around and move up. Multiple divisions give you insight to differing skill sets and cross training.

ConsWasn't impressed with the senior leadership team. They didn't make and stick to decisions very well. If decisions were made, they didn't communicate it to everyone but held people responsible to them. Pretty frustrating. Also, the benefits package was pretty bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave a vision and communicate it.
