I have been working at Zodiac Aerospace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a place where you can learn a lot about a manufacturing environment. Processes aren't developed so its takes a lot of interaction with many different departments to get things done. Because of this you get to learn about all the different departments. There is always something different to do and things are very fast paced so the days fly by.

    Cons

The culture can be really hard to deal with at times. People think that the company is in such a state of turmoil that it seems people don't want to try anymore. It can also be very hard to get things done because priorities and resources are constantly being shifted around. One week you're the hot topic and the next you are not. It can get tiresome having to continually push to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really work on retaining the good people and cut out the ones that aren't contributing. Add focus to the work environment and work to appropriately place resources in development so as to mitigate all the issues that are found in production.

    Not A Safe Work Environment

I worked at Zodiac Aerospace full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The production staff is an amazing group of people. They care and are passionate about the products they build. Some have been with the company more than 10 years. However, sadly, new management doesn't seem to share their passion or love of work.

    Cons

Zodiac Seat Shell's HR department is incapable of ensuring a safe environment for its employees. One planner was called "brown" by a senior director when differentiating him from a white colleague with a similar name. I personally was verbally and physically sexually harassed on multiple occasions. The company's response was to tell me to, "dress better." However, they could not quantify "better" as my attire met the HR code and handbook. One of my harassers was promoted 2 days after the incident--this didn't send me the message Zodiac understood what he did was wrong. The new French employees have had sexual harassment training (during which they laughed), but they still talk about young woman inappropriately and openly throughout the facility. Racist comments seem casual and routine. This is 2014, have we not learned anything in the last 20 years about how to treat people in the work place? Every employee deserves the right to feel safe and respected at work; Zodiac does nothing to protect their employee's rights. Upper management/directors are often seen together at bars, on company dime, harassing women (co-workers and otherwise). This seems to be a standard for success in the company. All Zodiac's finances go towards flying people from France out, paying for this luxurious lifestyle for the directors and managers, and little goes towards rewarding those whom Zodiac needs to succeed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The number one downfall right now is employee retention. Note: This is across all departments. Why isn't there a bigger effort to improve this? Instead Zodiac pays for the French/UK upper mgmt to travel business / first class 1-4 times a month, pays for their housing, hotels, relocation, gas, food, alcohol, and cars. And then tells our dedicated employees that their vacations, bonuses, Holiday parties and raises are canceled due to poor cost performance. Further more, telling people 3 days in advance that their planned Thanksgiving vacation is canceled seems unethical; the way the company handles finances and favors directors and French employees seems highly unethical. Everything you do just leads to more and more high caliber employees quitting, and you don't seem to care. I mean, over 100 key players have quit in the last year, doesn't corporate see why?

    Pros

    Employees, good salary, great benefits,

    Cons

Location, long working hours, no weekend time, no work-life balance, mostly contract workforce, a lot of finger pointing, no formal standards or guidelines, lack of communication, no strategic vision, no mentoring, lack of training, outdated equipment, outdated IT infrastructure, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to be a world-class company, you need to employ world-class talent. When you hire VP level people with no hands-on experience in the actual product development and too much emphasis on data, you become to focused on metrics and not on the new product development. The lack of communication and hostile working environment has scared away many talented people. Provide on the job training that is relevant to each job, promote people from within the company, focus on the future growth, foster good communications and employee satisfaction will increase. Pay close attention to comments on Glassdoor.com, there are a lot of good suggestions on here.

I have been working at Zodiac Aerospace full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The normal working people here are great. Lots to learn (mostly how not to run a business). International travel. Lots of work at least till they get more competition.

    Cons

Huge mom and pop shop. Nepotism and cronyism very prevalent. Promotions based on who you know. Never on qualifications. Almost as those in charge don't want people who think any differently than themselves. They fear the competition. New plan almost every week always with the same players who have created the mess! Will make your life miserable if you offer suggestions or try to show a better way to improve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Gainesville management are all losers. This message is to corporate. Get rid of the top management here and bring in professionals who have seen how things work outside of Gainesville, TX. Our customers are tired of hearing the same old (lies) improvement ideas made by the dame people quarter after quarter. Customers are looking for a company or company's that they can trust to do what they say they will do. Boeing customer saying this not me. In addition Quality is a big joke. Don't believe it look at reports from customers on what they are finding after final buy off and shipped from Gainesville. Good luck I hope you fix the place. But first someone has to start and it want be the current regime. They either don't know how or don't care. Wish I could help but am too bloody after 26 months of fighting. I'm leaving ASAP. Thanks for listening.

    Lack of communication.

I have been working at Zodiac Aerospace full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Anything can happen. Foreign travel is required. You are exposed to many disciplines and can learn quite a bit about operational and managerial issues that you would never be exposed to in a large company.

    Cons

Constant turnover, including management. Compensation is out of line with the cost of living in Souther California. No coherent training or retention plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand what is required to operate successfully in the present environment. Must have consistent in-depth communication and be willing to hear feed back that is not what you envisioned

    Friendly work staff.

    Cons

Company headquarters is locates in small isolated city.
Room for growth is based on time and not performance.
    Chaotic work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Skill development should be the main source for determining employee value not time based experiences.

    Pros

This company use to be Driessen Galleys until bought out by Zodiac recently (French Company). The company has new opportunities to expand their product line globally. Good place to start your engineering experience as a recent college graduate. Beyond that not much to add for pro's.

    Cons

Zodiac Galleys has many problems and have lot to learn to find solutions. They are problem creators and do not have long term goals for success. Here is a list of short term solutions to their long term problems.
    - Outsource engineering work to foreign nationals
    - Mostly short term contract employment (hourly and low pay)
    - Mostly tribal knowledge engineering practice and processes.
    - Parking problems. Employees receive tickets past 3 warnings.
    - Lack of proper training and no direction on professional growth
    - Both engineering and project management do not communicate effectively to tackle problems
    - 1 engineering manager does not share information and prefers to be the super manger to do it himself
    - Lots of egos in upper management - they do not lead or manage by best practice
    - Most managers have NO people skills to resolve conflicts and create a working team environment.
    - Older management that do not promote innovation just meet the numbers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Many advice to management
    - Train your employees (most engineers) effectively to do the work
    - Train your fellow managers to have people skills to resolve conflicts.
    - Park your manager egos aside. Other people have solutions not just yours
    - No company strategic goals - only make the numbers.
    - Share information. Need to encourage better communication between departments.
    - Stop assigning employees 2 or more title roles and expect them to be super stars

    Pros

Dive in quick, great people to work with.

    Cons

Definitely learn as you go which means tasks often take time. Need to focus more on process and adherence to it rather than final outcome. Constantly understaffed.
