I have been working at Zoetis

    Pros

    World-Leader in animal health products
    Extremely broad product portfolio
    Excellent Technical Services Veterinary team
Top shelf marketing and market presence

    Cons

Inconsistency between management team personalities and culture across the United States
Terrible gap between upper management and customer level real-world circumstances (management team is very removed from what is really happening in the marketplace)
Too many corporate leaders have background in human health, therefore adding to the aforementioned gap
Excessive in buying programs and initiatives; pushing difficulty between the work-life balance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a better balance by adding more people to the management team who stay involved at a consumer/producer level.
In some areas, company values are not truly upheld by members of the management team.

    I worked at Zoetis

    Pros

It was rewarding to have the opportunity to help establish the company as a separate entity before and after the IPO and work with sites around the world.

    Cons

There was a strong awareness that people don't matter and employee development is only based on a popularity contest. Employees are not rewarded for good work with loyalty. Changes are made without thoughts to the consequences.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees who do good work and work hard for the company should be cultivated. Management should listen to the people out in the company for input on how to deal with employees and the value they are adding.

    Pros

The people, the industry/customers, most of the products

    Cons

Management tends to offer short term solutions to long term situations and the expected hours and travel were unreasonable for me. My specific manager seemed more interested in her well being than that of her team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Win for the long term and just because you can doesn't mean you should.

No Certainty for Company or Position Longevity

    I worked at Zoetis

    Pros

The people you work with and interact with regularly are typically great. People really do work towards the same goal. Benefits are decent and pay is okay (livable but less than other companies).

    Cons

There is a huge focus to cut budgets left and right. Management does not appear to know what direction it wants to take and therefore it is always possible that people will be laid off. Managers are often hand off until they can't be and then there is too much micro-management. Life expectancy for Zoetis does not seem long. There is a full expectation that the company will be bought in the next few years or parts will be divested to streamline efforts and budgets. Focus is on money and not colleague engagement. Advancement and movement with in the company is difficult. Merit increases and bonuses are a joke. Must colleagues will not see anything higher than 2.5% increase for meeting expectations. You have to fit everyone into that bell curve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your people and stop cutting budgets. Let people do their job and reward them for it.

    Pros

Very talented people committed to serving customers and vets and partner with their suppliers for a long term relationship.

    Cons

Once the company comes to a level of stability after the spin off from Pfizer, the major issues with its systems may go away and the colleagues will then find time to focus 100% on being customer centric.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A global company such as Zoetis definitely has many interconnected systems and complicated processes that require the attention of management, but without the latter understanding the facts and data, big decisions could lead to wrong and undesired outcomes. I recommend that understanding of the overall business will lead to better top down approach of customer satisfaction.

I worked at Zoetis as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The culture there is great because you're interacting with engineers, scientists, marketing folks, and the executives are just around the corner. People are efficient and get work done. You can see the company really growing.

    Cons

For an intern, a downside is that everyone is really busy. This makes it difficult to obtain more responsibility or advice because the mentors don't necessarily have time to give instruction. This is definitely a better position for real self-starters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The only thing I can suggest is more coaching for the youngsters. You're doing great by teaching us how to work hard by example though.
