Former Employee - Intern - Hourly in Durham, NC

I worked at Zoetis as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The culture there is great because you're interacting with engineers, scientists, marketing folks, and the executives are just around the corner. People are efficient and get work done. You can see the company really growing.

    Cons

For an intern, a downside is that everyone is really busy. This makes it difficult to obtain more responsibility or advice because the mentors don't necessarily have time to give instruction. This is definitely a better position for real self-starters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The only thing I can suggest is more coaching for the youngsters. You're doing great by teaching us how to work hard by example though.

    Pros

Great atmosphere. Excellent pay and benefits. Colleagues are very friendly and helpful. Work schedule is not too demanding. Management is easy to approach.

    Cons

Communication can sometimes be an issue. There have been times where different shifts do not communicate well with one another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep discussing ideas with your people.

I have been working at Zoetis part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, especially peers that are at the same management level.

    Cons

    Leadership, workload, compensation, and culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a reality check and learn why your attrition rate is so high. It's not because people don't get along. Hard work is not rewarded with advancement, compensation is far too low for the cost reality of living in NJ, and the workload can be overwhelming. There is no reason a person should work 10+ hours on a weekend to just keep up.

    Pros

Leadership (other than HR) is impressive and focused on doing what is best for the business and colleagues. The company is poised to deliver great results in the near future. Steady growth is indicated and, in general, colleagues are very supportive of each other.

    Cons

There are still some growing pains in the near future. Company is newly public (1.5 years) and is not fully stand alone. HR is going through major transition. Almost 100% turnover in HR leadership team. Only a couple remain from when company went public. Lower levels of the HR organization lack confidence in HR leadership. Given the numerous restructuring in HR within the last year, they don't know if they will have a job from one day to the next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a closer look at the HR organization and its operation.

    Pros

Office culture is amazing and I always feel encouraged to develop myself. Very supportive with a great sense of teamwork! I feel very blessed!

    Cons

The spin-off did bring with it a great deal of challenges, so I suppose the one negative thing I can say is that sometimes things seem very uncertain, which I suppose is to be expected.

    Pros

A lot of great talent here, and kind people. Benefits & time off are decent, and there's a receptive atmosphere in discussing performance and ambition. Portfolio of products is very strong & only getting better.

    Cons

Salary not competitive. Upward mobility within the company is touted but very limited & unlikely in reality. The company has showcased a preference in hiring contractors versus full-time colleagues. The facilities are poor and any there's a very distinct, unpleasant atmosphere of cost-cutting that happens at every turn.

I have been working at Zoetis as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Co-workers are hard working and most are quite intelligent

    Cons

Most of the employees are from Pfizer, so they brought their disorganized, out of whack way of thinking with them. Lots of contractors doing just as much work as the "colleagues" but we are not treated the same of course. Many groups able to hire, and do but the groups that need it the most (Quality, Operations) are denied with the same song " budget, headcount", so the workload increases, employees are unhappy, and they let go good contractors. Good work life balance with my group, but no communication at all from managers regarding how you are doing.
Spoiled "lifers" who have no idea how good they have it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire contractors, staff your business correctly or I predict huge issues with production due to being short staffed and over worked.
