I have been working at Zumiez full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Great people. The people you work with at zumiez will be people you will know for the rest of your life. I have made some amazing friends with the company.
-Sales experience. With great leadership, you can find great sales training, and those techniques translate very well to other companies.

    Cons

-Pay. This company does not pay very well, and disguises all the hard work the SM's and ASM's do as "buying in" and that's just what anyone does, who loves their company.
-Opportunities for growth. In some markets the opportunity to grow is tremendeous, in other markets, not so much. In order to grow in this company working in a metropolitan marketplace is key.

    I worked at Zumiez

    Pros

It's a company that is still getting on it's feet but it's definitely a fun company to not only work for but also purchase things from.

    Cons

Like I said, it's a smaller company so the pay is not extraordinary and there many not be as many benefits offered as a well-established one.

    Pros

Still a company that is scaling up. Offers a lot of free trips and product incentives. You are able to move around as you wish and usually progress more if you are not tied down to an area.

    Cons

Do not quite pay a competitive wage compared to other retail stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to think about hire older upper management or transition to college educated individuals. Too many young un-buisiness minded managers.

I have been working at Zumiez full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, meet a lot of people, co workers are usually pretty cool, you get to play your own music, dress the way you want. Rewarded with a trip to Colorado if you are a top sales person in the company.

    Cons

This company uses their employees to their benefit the share holders; they only care about maximizing profits. the company will recruit people that are willing devote their entire lives to Zumiez, for little money. The store managers are typically high school or college dropouts that have no other options, but to manage a zumiez. That is why they accept the 30k salary and work 50 plus hours a week.. its pathetic.. You get hours based off of how well you do on their sales charts "SPC" the goal is to sell at least 2 items per transaction, each transaction should be at least $50, and you need to average about $200 an hour to be above average. If someone wants to buy 1 item or a cheap item, it actually hurts your stats and would be better not to sell the 1 item or the cheaper items. The sales performance system is dumb.. This company is going down hill, no longer is it a shop for the local skateboarders, but a place where kids go to buy Diamond shirts and Janowskis.. R.I.P. ZUMIEZ .. they need to change the name to SWAGIEZ....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher pay. Appreciate the good workers that you do have. Treat the management like they actually matter to the company. Maybe get rid of the 100k trip so you can pay your managers more money? Stop treating employees like pawns that can easily be replaced.

I worked at Zumiez full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Zumies truly appreciates their employees and gives back as much as they can! If you work hard you get to go to 100k! at the end of the year (a big fun 3 days in Colorado! ) Work life balance was good, hard to complain.

    Cons

To move to bigger and better things you have to be pretty willing to relocate, visual standards can vary from store to store and so can product offering so its hard to know what store may have what

I worked at Zumiez full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Can make great friends IF you're in the 'in' crowd.
Free trip to Colorado if you work full time and sell hard.
Potential for great commission during holiday.

    Cons

    The pay is horrible.
Everyone is replaceable and the District Manager does not hide this.
If you don't meet expectations, you lose hours.
Instead of firing you they just stop giving you hours, which means the manager has to like you.
    The stores are filthy.
You have to work LONG hours.
You are expected to put away freight, fold the store, clean, pick up trash, do projects, and keep customers from shoplifting ALL WHILE never missing a single customer.
The customers generally HATE that you want to talk to them, but if you leave them alone your manager will get pissed.
Work super hard and have great sales numbers, but if the District Manager thinks another employee is cooler and funnier, he'll get promoted first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your sales people like humans, not replaceable robots.
Focus on growing people, not hiring tattooed highschoolers and watching them sink or swim.

    Cons

Sexist GM. Illegal personal relationships with GM and ASM. Run terribly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into complaints that were filed, every worker should be important
