    Pros

    Highly accessible senior management, outstanding office culture of collaboration, positivity, and drive, and lots of opportunity for personal development whether that be horizontally into new groups or upwards into management. Relationships with clients is also very important to Zurich culture and so allows you to make great connections in the industry as a whole as opposed to just internally.

    Cons

    Responsibilities can be a bit repetitive when you work in one role, and you continue to do the same work day in and day out, a lot of which can be just inputting numbers. However this does allow you to become an expert at what you do.

    Pros

    Wonderful coworkers made the stringent deadlines bearable. In my opinion, the compensation was fair for the workload and the company was run by very talented executives.

    Cons

    Lots of managerial reporting needs and poor communication from the top. It always felt as if there was a lot going on at Zurich, but that news never trickled down to the lower run employees. The secretive nature of company strategy created for a disjointed workforce, but didn't hinder that day to day work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Zurich is a great place to work, but should invest in its employees more. There should be a greater availability of training opportunities and collaborative learning to enhance a cohesive work environment. Additionally, better communication from Senior Executives would help people feel like part of a family rather than small contributor. Also, there is lots of meaningless bureaucracy. Standardized reporting along lines would clear the confusion and let people work on more value added tasks.

    Pros

    Great networking with other interns, very friendly company, great training and programming for interns.
    Program gets you face to face with many upper level managers who are more than willing to provide career advice.

    Cons

    No job offers given directly to the rising seniors for the next summer. Although several interns did apply for post-graduation jobs and received them, a streamlined effort would have been more effective and appealing.

    Pros

    The company pays on time, has a very large customer base and Regional Vice Presidents are responsible for more than one line of business.

    Cons

    Extreme levels of turf protection especially within their Risk Engineering group. This group will openly protest when they feel someone is taking work from them even if they don't have the skillsets. This Ivory Tower syndrome is detrimental to truly adding value to the client but this group is more concerned with their job?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Either decide to provide service, and if so, make it "World Class." If not, then utilize the AIG approach and eliminate the Risk Engineering group for all but due dilligence.

    Pros

    Big company, great vacation time. Lots of resources available. For those in underwriting and claims, there are many opportunities to advance (at least at the entry level). If you are liked, you are given opportunities to grow beyond a single business unit. They are very serious about acting in an ethical and responsible way.

    Cons

    I think many in the highest levels of management believe that people are interchangeable - an underwriter can underwrite anything, an auto claims adjuster can adjust complex liability claims, etc. This leads experienced people to feel devalued. Difficult to EVER get about the "median" salary - I've been there 20 years and am still at median. Very focused on metrics - whether or not they are actually measuring something valuable or apply to a particular business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat people as individuals and respect their skills and experience. Get rid of those who don't perform well.

    Pros

    Diverse environment, work life balance, great people, good pay and bonuses, good training programs, good benefits as far as vacation/PTO/sick days. You never feel over worked.

    Cons

    Very poor benefits as far as medical, eye and dental. Most of the open job opportunities are in Europe. Finally, the first company I've encountered where they don't require a pre-screening drug test (odd).

    Co-workers are wonderful, there is little to no corporate politics going on
    Lots of on-the-job training
    Networking and volunteer opportunities are available in abundance
    Benefits package

    Cons

    Some of the management team doesn't seem to respond well to employees advancing their careers by moving to other departments.
    Salary - underpaid compared to some other insurance companies

    You may find that some departments are more open to career growth than others. Great job in keeping all employees aware of big-picture policies and goals!

    Good work life balance, tend to promote from within, offer on site training to advance career, active in local communities and charities, upper management values and rewards performance, incentives and perks available to valued employees,

    Cons

    too many subpar middle managers, technology is dated and in need of a face lift, upper management could listen to employee feedback more, turnover is an issue and underwriters handle larger workload than competitors, certain processes could use enhancements or be reconsidered altogether

    listen to employees and reconsider some unnecessary and time consuming admin and servicing procedures
