    Pros

Zurich is a company that has a strategy and a plan to go from good to great. It also has a focus on its employees and customers.

    Cons

Company is implementing an open seating arrangement and must insure that it provides enough group meeting space and privacy.

    Cons

Opportunities to move up the corporate ladder are limited.

Used to be an excellent employer

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Back in the day- used to be mutual support between Managed Care and Worker's Comp. Claims. Upper management in both business units worked well and that positive energy filtered down.
Employee benefits were good, but somewhat costly to the employee
When the overall business was good, yearly awards (called STIPs) were great

    Cons

In 2010-2111, the culture began changing and everyone in Managed Care felt it. In the US, company went thru 2 downsizing. Clearly, there was some nonperforming employees, but cuts were significant. Survived both transitions, but this left huge gaps in managing caseloads and responding to customers. Company's downhill journey began, with the company's insurance rating dropping and lost business.Management seemed immune to this- at least from the employee's view.
A real double-standard also became apparent- managers were not held to business standards. Managers violated "Zurich Basics" and were not terminated, but slapped on the wrist instead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. The "Basics" were written to outline business ethics, yet this was ignored. There was concrete and indisputable evidence of this practice occurring.
Also, don't take an Excel audit sheet that captures all the necessary audit information and "re-create" it into nearly 16 pages of repetitive nonsense.

    Pros

Zurich provided an amazing work life balance and great perks for its employees. Lots of ability to travel as well.

    Cons

Not great career patching for employees. Goals changed regularly and that made it extremely hard to manage expectations for peers and employees

I have been working at Zurich North America (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Depending on role within the company, there are opportunities for growth. Benefits and flexible work schedules. Employee engagement events. Community investment initiatives.

    Cons

Once you reach a certain level, growth opportunities are scarce. There's no consistency in line managers and mid management across the organization as well as within departments. People's experience and opinion about the company vary depending on management teams, leaving a wide gap.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your talent and streamline efforts across the organization. For instance, the career path and succession planing efforts offered to those on the business side should also be duplicated on the claims side of the organization. Please reevaluate your staffing models, they are too lean and ultimately sabotage the objectives/goals taunted by the company. Invest and require more in depth training for line managers and mid management.
