I have been working at Zurich North America full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I get to work with great people.

I have had many opportunities to learn.

    Great bonus and retirement benefits.

    Strong core values statement.

    Cons

Artificial constraints prevent us from reaching full potential.

Annual pay increases do not keep up with inflation, regardless of performance review.

The core values statement does not permeate everywhere that it should.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Remove the artificial constraints.

Rethink compensation so that employees can keep up with inflation.

    Pros

The commercial market insurer has great products, exciting customers and interesting claims adjustment scenarios. Highly collaborative teams of underwriting and claim professionals are continuously involved in improvement activities.

    Cons

Career advancement can be sluggish at times depending on the function. Yet there is a strong focus on internal promotions that may solve this problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to achieve the right work balance between HR and governance initiatives and strategic decision making to get the functional job done.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good people to work with and environment was friendly. Most of the managers supported their employees in their individual and professional development toward their goals.

    Cons

Their performance rating system is not equitable to all employees. Higher positions always seemed to achieve higher rankings, regardless of their contribution or performance towards department or company goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Adjust your performance rating system to be equal to all.....from President down to mail room.

I worked at Zurich North America as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Good working environment, The support staff is one of the best. Support from fellow attorneys is also top notch.

    Cons

This is an in-house position with Zurich Insurance. Therefore, the adjusters run the show and keep the purse strings and limit your ability to hire experts and work the case properly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dont allow the adjusters to have such power. You will lose the big cases if you allow them to act as "attorney" and prevent you from doing your job.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome and rewarding place to work, great management at the local level and above, pay for production is right on, company vehicle a plus, great training, paid for license schooling, technology is on point...overall great job!

    Cons

On average about 20-30% higher premium cost but value in coverage is A+, HQ in Kansas City makes it difficult to have relationship with Underwriters

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help the NY market become more competitive in pricing, we have an outstanding product but sometimes the value doesn't make up for the cost above competition.
