    Pros

The people are great, they're smart, and kind. They have a Ministry of Fun and she is really nice and puts together really fun events. Talking to people in the hall or on the couch is considered Social Capital building and it is encouraged. If you're not busy, that is okay - they recognize it happens.

    Cons

Really strange and terrible corporate culture. At least in R&D and seems to be getting worse. Only people who have been there for awhile get any say. Its definitely got a cult like vibe to it. If you go against the grain, you will be shunned. And Associates and maybe even Sr. Associates, at least in some roles, certainly do not get a say at all!!! They don't evaluate what you've done and what you can do, they expect you to put in your dues and say YES at all times! Questioning things is frowned upon.

Things change so often and quickly. They can't seem to get it right, yet they think they know best!

    Advice to Management

Be open to new ideas and better/different ways of doing things. Respect your employees opinions and thoughts. Practice what you preach - you have a lot of espoused values that are not reality!

I have been working at athenahealth as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Culture, colleagues, great learning experience, variety of projects. The pay was awesome. I came in at a time when they were desperate for a designer/developer. The compensation absolutely covered the amount of work given though.

    Cons

Some times too many projects, they tend to pile on changes last minute. Some times campaigns were poorly thought out and would be shelved. Growth opportunity are limited, they tend to silo jobs. At times it felt like the work was data entry. They also had no intention of converting me full time, some colleagues were viewed as disposable. I left after realizing there was no growth and that i was stuck at a low ceiling. Management was also technological inept, so many campaigns would be cancelled, after management realizes they cant make up ideas and think its technologically viable and feasible.

    Advice to Management

Please better assess management, invest in your employers, and maybe so any people would net leave the company after a year.

Depends on where you're at in your career

    I worked at athenahealth

    Pros

Long streak of high-growth that presents opportunities
Investing in campuses in diverse locations
High-profile company so your experience there will be marketable
Still strive to have a strong entrepreneurial culture

    Cons

Great place to get started but many struggle to find their next opportunity once they've reached "Associate" level.
Significant gap in comp between top two levels and others
Your opportunities very much depend on whether your leader has juice in the organization

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at whether what you want to believe is true is the reality for the people in the Associate/Manager ranks. They should be the future leadership. Are they encouraged to stay? Can they see their path forward?

    Pros

Pays well, and there are frequent corporate events.

    Cons

The company expects you to work yourself to death. You absolutely need to work more than 40 hours per week to be successful here, and there is virtually no work-life balance.

    Pros

This company excels at culture. Good from their healthy vending machines? Enriched with it. Its identity comes straight from the CEO and fosters collaboration, cooperation, and healthy competition amongst peers. I've never felt more supported by management. These men and women have endured the same trial by fire that you will (and as a rapidly growing company oh, you will) and know what tools their employees need to get the job done. Each location is soaked in history and, no other way to put it, just cool. Plenty to love.

    Cons

I worked in Alpharetta prior to the Atlanta relocation. Culture grew but at a slower pace. Challenges to identity within the physical office space. Less cohesion amongst the present parties.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up.
