    Pros

Smart, hard working people. You will get a lot of responsibility here and gain a lot of experience quickly but will not have the authority to make things happen. Products are interesting to customers but need a lot more evidence before wider adoption.

    Cons

Competitive ability is questionable: the CEO lacks business acumen and the leadership skills required to drive bioTheranostics forward. He's also volatile, demotivates employees and doesn't trust anyone to do what they were hired to do. Senior management lives in a bubble and lacks experience compared to peer group companies. HR is worst-in-class (seriously, I've never met an HR department of one that's as tone deaf, inexperienced and as obtuse as HR at bioTheranostics). Salaries run 10-20% below comparators at other similar San Diego-based companies. Benefits got worse and worse every year. 401k was good, however, as the parent company matched up to 6% and you are invested right away. Turnover is very high with key personnel leaving for better opportunities on a regular basis--within last 24 months, the chief scientific officer left and wasn't replaced, the sales leadership changed three times, the chief medical officer left and many, many sales representatives have left/quit/been fired. It's a negative culture and environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership needs to do a lot of work to build confidence with employees. More experienced and capable leadership required here.

Poor senior management resulting in a poor culture. Most people do not want to be there and it is obvious.

    Pros

Great technology and leading test of its kind. Initially, field sales was given a free hand to bring in the business.

    Cons

When the Company was purchased by bioMerieux things changed. Management does not know what they are doing and won't listen to the field and client feedback. Very poor CEO as far a business savy and people skills are concerned. Over estimating market opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow people to do their jobs without blame when things don't happen as expected. Give people the opportunity to make sound decisions and give advice. Empower people

    Pros

Great opportunities to learn new things and explore new areas since most of the times you are on your own. The lack of directions can be blessings if you are a risk taker and want to venture out of your comfort zone.

    Cons

Top managements are predisposed towards blaming problems on other people rather than the organizational system. As a result they focus too much in micro-management as well as continuous monitoring of activities. Fighting fires became their norm and they spent very little time on developing strategy, setting priorities, and thinking about the system. This created more unnecessary works for the support teams who often felt ceremonial and disconnected from the real work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Manage capacity
    2. Change your habits around problems
    3. Have a clear strategy and live by it
    4. Develop the ability to have real conversations with your employees and other stakeholders
