A decent place to start, but not to grow.

    Pros

There is a fair amount of flexibility with working hours and I've had a good balance with my work/personal life. I've received promotions and have learned a lot.

    Cons

Information is not provided very openly. Senior management is not supportive of employees sharing ideas or making suggestions about the progress of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fear based management doesn't produce results and it doesn't make your employees respect you. Don't expect people to have trust in you when you make decisions that don't seem to be well thought out.

    Pros

    Hot space
    Interesting technology
    Good buzz in industry

    Cons

    Poor execution on products
    Terrible treatment of employees
    Poor communication- starting at management
Bogus PR: papering the industry with meaningless press releases
Lack of support, yet all the obligations on accomplishing things

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's time to clean house at the management level at blinkx, I don't think any reputable person who can contact people via sites like this or social networks will take a job at blinkx unless they are desperate.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA

    Pros

It's nice for working your straight eight hours and going home. There isn't much motivation to work extra or contribute more. Your coworkers you work with on a day to day basis are nice.

    Cons

Blinkx doesn't create anything truly innovative or ground breaking on the tech side. There aren't many perks if at all for working there. This isn't an environment for you if you're looking to learn and grow. There isn't many areas to advance to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please talk to your employees and care about them more.

    Pros

laid back atmosphere, good benefits, competitive salary

    Cons

Confusion on what exactly the products are and how they work (if they work?). With recent acquirement of Burst, there is various new roles that need to be played for your position which is aggravating/confusing. It will take time for this to smooth out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more flexible with employees work hours. Should be allowed to work from home as long as job is getting done and there should be summer hours on Fridays (like most companies of this type in SF).

    Pros

Very nice people (for the most part), they are doing a fantastic job in their industry and just seem to be getting better and better. Clean office with plenty of supplies, and a great view. Free snacks!

    Cons

My supervisor was never one to appreciate my hard work and was very unhelpful. She didn't want to train me, so it was very autonomous. And as an admin you're very separated from the rest of the group.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate all of your employees, even the ones who have been with the company a while, to see what they bring to the table.

    Pros

Pretty good benefits, compensation is good (if you're a manager or higher or have been there a while), kitchen is always full of food, so it's like free breakfast and lunch, beer days, morale events here are fun and engaging, free parking, co-workers are cool, they really do promote from within, and lots of flexibility and autonomy.

    Cons

-Some upper management are better than others (some don't listen or ignore your suggestions altogether, but there are some that are open to new ideas), not proactive with increased compensation, there was a reorg recently that have embittered some people, no 401(k) matching, and while some people can telecommute, it's largely discouraged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with your employees more. Based on the opinions of the employees and myself, we feel that the company is not transparent enough and everything is always so secretive. Also, listen to your employees; they're the backbone of the company and have good intentions for the company.

    Pros

    -blinkx is growing
    -Supportive upper management
    -Competitive Salary
-Thursday lunches, lots of snacks/beverages for free

    Cons

-Growing pains comes with some confusion for employees on their roles. Makes sense though based on recent acquires (burst, etc)
-Not flexible on work schedules (typical m-f, 8:30 - 5:30 type job). Should allow to work from home or summer fridays like many other companies with similar environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with Monthly meetings regarding company updates (we just started this, but hoping it does not go away). Bring back happy hour Fridays (let us drink in the office!). Be more flexible about working from home.

    Opportunity to learn/grow

When the share price was right-high value options

    Cons

When the share price is low options were NOT valuable!
    Chaotic management style in engineering
lots of projects and changes to projects

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to let engineers work on their projects for longer so the product can be better
Keep letting people learn new technologies
