    Advice to ManagementAdvice

ok , so I was a Recent college graduate who was hired in August 2014.
I was given a good offer , joining bonus and everything .
We had 1 week orientation , it was great.. All the leaders of eBay spoke about the future of the company and the CEO himself addressed on how " eBay and PAYPAL together as one company is going to impact millions of people across the globe " .. a lot of things was said about moving forward as one company.. blah blah blah

And within a month we hear the opposite - Paypal is spinning off from eBay and its for the better future of both the companies . Its exactly the opposite of what I heard in the orientation about month ago .

But here comes the fun part.. Within in 6 months I was laid off from the company , not just me but the whole team which had a number of recent college graduates .
I have seen companies laying off senior people with 10+ years of experience , but eBay just did the opposite . How could you lay off people who just joined you straight out of college???
Well they gave us good severance but our priority is Job security , not money !!
Its hard for a rookie to understand all the management strategies and its really not fair to send RCG's home!!

Anyways I don't think any recent college graduate would want to join eBay after this and this has definitely not sent a good message to the student community .
I hope eBay recovers from this loss soon.

    Pros

Excellent work life balance, excellent benefits and potential for awesome manangement. free snacks, juice / soda

    Cons

Employees are constantly in the dark about what the company is doing. Layoffs got rid of some very good people "just because". Constant reorgs and management changes. Had 3 managers in a 72 hour time frame.

Get rid of stacked ranking, share plans for future with employees

    Pros

eBay offers good perks, cafes on site, travel, bonuses etc.

    Cons

The company expects you to work long hours and weekends. They pay reasonably well but expect you to sacrifice family time for work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should consider providing more time off and allowing employees to work more standard hours, which would reduce stress.

I worked at eBay Inc. full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The eBay name will look good on a resume, there are professional organizations you can join for networking and workshops/seminars you can attend for professional development, free gym and shuttle rides. Easy commute if you live in the south bay. Salaries are competitive. If you are proactive and take initiative and have a manager that cares about your development, you can move up (but usually takes at least 1 year before you can change roles/title)

    Cons

Too many layers in the hierarchy, male dominated, teams often work in silos and don't know what else is going on outside their area, not all employees are knowledgeable about product offerings and it's hard to know who to go to if you have questions/comments/suggestions. Lots of internal politics. Doesn't seem to be very innovative compared to competitors and change takes a long time to come about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to take on projects that may not fall under their job descriptions to help them grow and increase on-the-job happiness. Make innovative changes faster. Have a clear strategy for product integration and knowledge sharing among teams/depts.
