I worked at eBay Inc. full-time

    Pros

Decent business strategy, many smart people, excellent brand. When a decision is made and backed up with investment, initiatives move forward and are executed.

    Cons

HR is a nightmare. Slow to move on anything. No concept of value creation. Focused on optimizing what is already there and not open to new ideas. The hiring plan is used to manage costs and results in req freezes on a regular basis throughout the year. Lots of politics.

I worked at eBay Inc. as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, great perks as an intern. Intern project was very interesting.

    Cons

People claim to be Data scientists, but are actually data analysts. Few people have background in data mining or machine learning.

I have been working at eBay Inc. full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I don't see any Pros, except for the fact that so many people have left the company that they cannot lay you off.

    Cons

They have new seating where they make the manager sit right next to you,
Now this guy (manager) monitors everyone and notes how you plan your entire day
He also expects you to send him hourly work schedule by end of the week.
The company has not performed well over the last two years hence even if you perform well, the portion of the bonus that depends on the company will never be 100%, probably close to 75% or less
Lots of senior folks have left the company including David Marcus (Head of PayPal unit)
No innovation is happening inside the company at all, the technologies used inside is pretty old.
The development infrastructure is completely broken, you have to really struggle hard to push just a single line of code into production.
Management does not want to spend the time in improving the infrastructure but want their developers to keep giving out o/p at constantly high pace.

I worked at eBay Inc. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There used to be pros when company (or certain departments) was run (somewhat) by engineers. They don't exist anymore unless you're an intern, college graduate or H1B. You won't learn nor will you build anything of consequence in the "current" eBay.

    Cons

Endless meetings about meetings. Employer doesn't value employees...if they did they wouldn't have done a constructive dismissal of all of them. Heartless company with no direction, abusive managers, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hara-kiri.

Great place when you start, not so great when you have been there a long time. They don't value employee loyalty.

I worked at eBay Inc. (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There are wonderful people to work with around the company. The sabbatical program is of course a plus (after having worked there 5 years). I found a lot of opportunities for advancement and learned a lot during my time there.

    Cons

After a number of promotions and over 10 years of working there, I barely got a pat on the back when I left. I went in and felt like a contributor that mattered for a number of years and left feeling like a number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better people managers. There are a lot of smart people out there, but you're suffering in the morale and productivity departments because of the lack of true mentors at the company. Don't throw new programs at the problem (I know there's a mentoring program.). You need to hire people that actually inspire others. And please start showing those that have stuck with the company through good and bad some appreciation, instead of operating a culture that makes that loyalty feel like a negative.

    Pros

Well defined Structure. Lot of opportunities to learn and grow. Overall a great place to work!

    Cons
