I have been working at eBay full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exciting technical experience, things are moving fast and the ability to get things done is rewarded. Telecommuting is an option in some groups, and encouraged in others. eBay is a global company so there isn't a singular view on any approach.

    Cons

There is a "get it done at all costs" feeling which can negatively impact quality and foundational activities. You have to be protective of your work/life balance because the org operates 24/7 and if you're ready to engage someone is there to keep you busy. The pay is good, but not the top range great.

    Advice to Management

At the top most layer be consistent, be ethical, be effective. At the mid range and down, communicate and collaborate. Stepping on each other is not the way to build a strong company.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at eBay full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent place to apply and learn data science and engineering, there are several challenging open ended modeling problems and then there engineering systems problems at scale. A product success translates directly into changing lives of sellers and buyers. Benefits are reasonable. The company treats employees well and there are many super smart people working on applied sciences.

    Cons

A few of the leadership hires or promoted managers, directors, VPs were average and did not really have good understanding of engineering and science. Some of these people hired some of the most inefficient engineers, scientists and managers and then the chain continued and it has polluted the company quite a bit which is probably reflected in slow down of the growth of the marketplace. The new product head from apple has started brining back the tune again though. The lay-off probably was necessary.

    Advice to Management

It is absolutely necessary to make the hiring and promotion decisions transparent and ethical. It may be a good idea to emphasize on corporate ethics and be very serious about it. Eventually, it will help brining the product innovation and the energy for the company and help it to accelerate the growth.

I have been working at eBay full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Work - Life balance - Competes with big companies in terms of salary - There is a lot of major system that require major changes so you get to build them

    Cons

    1) Politics 2) Not everyone is smart 3) Not everyone does their job sincerely which might be a big negative for you If you are sincere

    Advice to Management

Should also hire people who work :)
