Great people, strategy change w/CEO's mood every 24hrs, difficult to succeed

    Pros

Awesome people -- "family" environment. A few key managers will go out of their way to enable you and try their best to set you up for success, and the Customer Service manager is terrific. There are a few passionate people there, but some are jaded by the way things have been run. The technology that the company offers is a little out-dated, but there is much potential if the right strategy and game plan were to be put into place!

If seeking a new opportunity for your career, it would be an interesting experience and challenging, and people who thrive in a family-type environment would be happy here.

    Cons

Success is difficult to achieve: There is no true vision, no defined goals and objectives, strategy changes every 2 seconds with the CEO's mood. The CEO isn't as horrible as some of these reviews make him out to be, but business-wise, there is absolutely no way this company will have a bright future so long as he continues to not take the advice of the professionals he hires. Whether an external consulting firm, in-house sales or marketing personnel, what's best for the company is not taken into consideration - only what the CEO sees as "important" at the time. It was jaw-dropping that, for instance, a project would be executed and completed, only for him to object and bring progress to a screeching halt and ask questions that should have been answered in the planning stages.

With fundamental strategy and vision changes literally every other day, it makes it practically impossible for anything to be completed and seen through. It is impossible to achieve anything or realize any success with the way the company is operated.

Internal communication is a mess, and seemingly nothing is done about it, even when people volunteer to assist. This is detrimental, as employees even go as far to say things like, "we're not a real company" (as in they feel like they are just a bunch of people with laptops playing pretend, and that eWayDirect is not a true, stable, or profitable organization).

Revenue has dropped over 50% in the past few years. They've had to do a round of lay offs recently, and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel, since the company is ran on the CEO's whim. A very dangerous way to run a company, as nothing is based off of metrics or statistics, and decisions are not made based on what is best for the company, but rather what the CEO feels at that moment is acceptable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please listen to the professionals you hire. If you hire a sales or marketing team, please listen to their advice, as they are the experts in that field, and that's why you hired them. There must be short and long-term goals defined and measured. Being agile and adapting to the trends and issues in the market is one thing, but vision and strategy cannot change so frequently, if you want to be successful.

The biggest danger to the company's success is the CEO.

    Pros

Good compensation with commission. I started out loving this job. I learned a lot of new things in the first few months, unfortunately I had to learn them on my own because the training process was weak. I loved the team I worked with and depended on their knowledge and support.

    Cons

Lack of management involvement in day to day activities of employees. Weak training processes. Little support from upper management in solving inter-company issues. The job descriptions all over the company we constantly changing. New rules implemented and forgotten weeks later. The company was trying to grow but didn't have the stability to maintain forward progress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to your employees and what they repeatedly say they need. Management focused too much on making sure they looked good to superiors instead of supporting employees and providing proper training. Very little room for advancement.

    Pros

    Gave a decent Christmas bonus.

    Cons

Constantly miss managed titles of employees and paid a bare minimum for the work they required. Terrible political atmosphere that pitted employees against each other. Owner promoted unskilled personnel to lead management positions based on personal relationships.

    Pros

Benefits are good and staff adopts a "family" sense.

    Cons

Management is inconsistent and brings major tension. Employees are not valued. There is no growth opportunities in position or salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should focus on selecting managers who are not only knowledgeable but also those that will implement sound polilcies for the employees to motivate performance. Provide annual salary increase on merit. Define growth opportunities. Focus on employee satisfaction and provide consistent, accountable and clear guidelines.

I have been working at eWayDirect full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are a woman they will give you a shot regardless of qualifications.
Easy commute, pretty good parking. Upper management plays favorites.
If you are a minority and they need to fill their quota you're in.
Their are some nice people who work there

    Cons

If you are a man they will give you a shot if you've got something to impress them with, but quick to fire if you are a man.
Upper management plays favorites, be careful.
Stingy with days off or comp time ( only if you're a man)
    Unfair work environment hands down!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a really ethical, fair HR person to tell you guys when you're being racist, sexist, or inappropriate.
Also the employees do notice what you guys are doing. And boy do some of them talk! But then, you boys know that what with all the employee lawsuits. Word on the street is your company is going to fall soon.
