  1. Working there is no longer what it once was

    Pros

Good hours and not physically demanding

    Cons

Very low commissions compared to what they used to be; managers are no longer willing to allow you to haggle with customers in order to get a sale.

    Advice to Management

Allow your employees to haggle; that is the reason that half of the customers are shopping there in the first place.

    Pros

Typical retail hours but pay based on commission. Good products and prices. Co-workers were great. Training was adequate.

    Cons

Management at time not in touch with sales associates. Work culture at times had a feel of "favoritism".

    Advice to Management

    Nothing at this time.

I worked at hhgregg full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Really get your feet wet in sales and quickly. Good people for the most part still there. Excellent job for college student making decent money while working hard and learning corporate America.

    Cons

Every manager is different. Most stores will not keep the same GM over a year so it is hard to keep the morale flowing. Commission got lower every year on product... much lower. Warranties are hard to believe in so then for hard to sell unless you are appliances or used car sales grime. Upper management is probably the worst thing about the company. Mostly has beens from circuit city and sears who obviously did not deserve s second chance. Horrible hours and expected manual labor will run anyone good at sales out.

    Advice to Management

Too late truthfully. Only good salesman left there are the ones to dumb to get out.

I worked at hhgregg full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

enjoyed the people I worked with

    Cons

Company went "public" and the culture changed overnight. No longer a "family" business. Used to run a store like your own business then it became an HR-run company with newly acquired Sears execs.

    Advice to Management

Don't change the pay structure when people start making money. When people make money that is only good for the company.
