I have been working at hibu full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company is strengthening financially. Over diversification is now back under control. Wasteful spending has been curtailed. Better work life balance now

    Cons

Revenues have not yet rebounded. Spectre of layoffs continually hangs over the business. People viewed as more expendable today than in past.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a better financial rewards plan together. Unfreeze promotions

I worked at hibu (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back environment, great people to work with. The work-life balance was definitely one of the few perks.

    Cons

Bankruptcy, recent changes in executive management and the multiple rounds of layoffs in the past year should make anyone fearful applying for any positions within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your employees know they are more than a number to you.

I have been working at hibu full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Employees are friendly, even though many of the good people were let go in favor of sheep.

    Cons

Just received some disturbing info about our benefits. They're handing us off to an exchange, so we can "have more options." Sounds menacing. Fired entire divisions only to hire them in others. New CEO talks out of both sides of his mouth, can't trust a word he says. Management tiers are so out of step with one another, a lot of blame gets thrown around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell off all of the business units. Which they apparently are, to web.com among others. Advice? Sell off the units, pay you're debtors, and lock the doors. Also, make someone other than the writers take grammar tests, including spelling / usage.

I worked at hibu full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

OK for a young person to get their feet wet but be warned that it could be short lived.

    Cons

You work too hard for little money and the chances of company being around in a year do not look good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We started this division from the ground up but corporate was having great deal of problems financially and decided in the end that it was not worth it. Since our layoffs in May over 3,000 people have been let go.

I worked at hibu full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Was close to home but that was a pro for me only

    Cons

    - Poor management style
    - Arguing between managers in front of (and sometimes on top of) employees
    - Bitterness between groups
    - Management doesn't listen
    - Open floor environment, very noisy (especially with people fighting over you) and hard to concentrate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Stop fighting, get along like adults
    - Listen to your employees

I worked at hibu full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay was decent and their were opportunities for bonuses.

    Cons

The management at this company when I left was extremely poor. The emphasis was only focused on obtaining standards and little personal connections. the company name was changed to a 4 letter acronym which meant nothing and only served to confuse the customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop keeping the earning for yourself and share with the employees who actually do all the work

I worked at hibu full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The compensation was not bad. The benefits were good.

    Cons

Work was not delegated fairly. The magazine department was mismanaged. Long hours were required. There was little work/life balance and little respect for the amount of work required in short intervals. Management set unrealistic goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The magazine project might have been successful if it was given more time before it was discontinued. It was expanded too quickly and should have been kept centralized instead of going to the field. Work was not distributed fairly. Some people, mainly in the field, had little work to do while others were given challenges and overworked.
