I worked at hibu full-time for more than a year

    Pros

OK for a young person to get their feet wet but be warned that it could be short lived.

    Cons

You work too hard for little money and the chances of company being around in a year do not look good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We started this division from the ground up but corporate was having great deal of problems financially and decided in the end that it was not worth it. Since our layoffs in May over 3,000 people have been let go.

I worked at hibu full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay was decent and their were opportunities for bonuses.

    Cons

The management at this company when I left was extremely poor. The emphasis was only focused on obtaining standards and little personal connections. the company name was changed to a 4 letter acronym which meant nothing and only served to confuse the customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop keeping the earning for yourself and share with the employees who actually do all the work

I worked at hibu full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The compensation was not bad. The benefits were good.

    Cons

Work was not delegated fairly. The magazine department was mismanaged. Long hours were required. There was little work/life balance and little respect for the amount of work required in short intervals. Management set unrealistic goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The magazine project might have been successful if it was given more time before it was discontinued. It was expanded too quickly and should have been kept centralized instead of going to the field. Work was not distributed fairly. Some people, mainly in the field, had little work to do while others were given challenges and overworked.

I have been working at hibu full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    1. Great coworkers and management. The culture here is great. I love coming to work every day.
    2. Good benefits and a bonus program.
    3. Great place to start a career.

    Cons

    1. Upper management is more focused on numbers than on building good relationships with our clients and developing products.
    2. Communication between departments is severely lacking and causes confusion for all internal employees and provides a frustrating experience for customers.

I have been working at hibu as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

    *Very nice co-workers
    *Approachable and receptive management
    *Easy work
    *Decent Pay
    *Good Benefits

    Cons

*Monotonous and unnecessary amount of training. There's no reason to require a college degree and two plus years experience if your going to 're-educate' everyone for two weeks.

*Company culture is all about group think and conformity. A smart, talented and hard-working introverted person may still find themselves struggling here because Hibu, for some reason has adapted a ridiculous "let's all be BFFS FOREVER!!!!" mentality. All of the working spaces are open layouts. There's no privacy in the open cubicles and only some managers will let listen to music while you work. The alternative is to listen to the customer service reps (bless their hearts because it's not their fault) talk to customer while you try to write copy, edit layout, etc.

*De-nile isn't Just a River in Egypt. Hibu and the company that bought it out are both in DEEEEP financial trouble. Hibu has filed bankruptcy and the work is not coming in like it used to. Instead of accepting facts and creating a new strategy they feel the need to lie to interviewees, current employees and recruiting firms. They will hire people in rounds promise them the moon and lie, lie, lie about the amount of work available and opportunities for growth and promotions. Three months later they realize they haven't the money to pay any of these new workers and lay them off. A month later the cycle starts again. The state of denial not only hurts hard working people it's downright scary to see how easy it is for these people to lie so much and so often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

*Try looking outside of your bubble. Look at what the competition is doing and where the industry is moving as a whole. This will help you gain the perspective you desperately need.

I have been working at hibu full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Competitive Salary and excellent benefits
    Flexible work hours
Good office facilities, cafeteria and gym on premises

    Cons

Having to hide my badge because every customer will approach me and complaint about hibu
No corporate culture , it's a bunch of islands floating in a building
Company is bankrupt and layoffs are happening every three months
Working with offshore teams at all hours of the day

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the sales force - the collections department is getting bigger than most other departments. Instill some sense of culture into the company, there is none. Improve marketing, most people I met had to ask : hibu? What is that?

    I worked at hibu full-time

    Pros

The company has an great work life balance: flexible work hours, frequent opportunities to work from home, minimal travel. The benefits and salary are very competitive, including bonuses. The company has a Philanthropic mindset and tries to hold regular events to keep up morale.
Company has been working hard to make the post-yellowbook business model work. They have worked themselves out of the financial and debt problems and are trying to grow their new digital business. Engineering department has the ability to make technical decisions with few restrictions.

    Cons

Some parts of organization are overly bloated and processes can be burdensome at times. Little opportunity for career advancement. Leadership team does not seem execute very well or have good vision for future product/business growth. Overall company morale is somewhat low due to the consistent downsizing of the old yellowbook business. Ineffective use of offshore resources.

I worked at hibu full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Only good thing about being employed at hibu during the past four of seven years are the GREAT Employees

    Cons

Training, Communication, too many products pushed to Sales and way too much turnover in sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better Communication to employees. Get the employees the training that they need to assist clients when calling. Upper Management fails to realize that with ALL Customer Service Positions OUTSOURCED along with a large number of Web-Sites hibu is NOW TOTALLY BROKEN AND DYSFUNCTIONAL THOSE FEW CUSTOMERS THAT DO HAVE ADS DO NOT, REPEAT WANT TO SPEAK TO ANY OVERSEAS due to language barriers

Former Employee - Quality Assurance Website Editor  in  King of Prussia, PA
Former Employee - Quality Assurance Website Editor in King of Prussia, PA

I worked at hibu full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The night shift environment was very relaxed and I was able to work at my own pace as long as I met the daily production quota by the end of the night. The pay was good for an entry-level position, and I gained valuable experience.

    Cons

The lack of communication between departments was really frustrating. No one ever seemed to know exactly what to do. If you asked someone for the "official" way of doing things, they would shrug and tell you how they would do it. Stricter guidelines and better communication would have solved many issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is constantly telling employees that they want high quality products, yet they don't provide the proper tools to make this work. As a Quality Assurance Website Editor, I had to read over website copy that had been outsourced, and most times it felt like I was reading something a high school student wrote. Quantity is more important to management than quality, and it's frustrating because the product could be improved with better communication between departments and more time dedicated to getting things done right the first time. Sales reps either provide too much or too little information to build a website, and then they complain in emails to the web building team that the customer is upset because the site is nothing like they wanted. That's what happens when you have 4+ people contributing to a website whose only motivation is to work quickly and get the job out of their queue. This company could have been great, but too much emphasis is put on numbers instead of realistic ways to improve.
