    Pros

Great people, good collaboration between people
    Things get done!

    Cons

Management strategy is a concern, unclear future

While there is an attemp to break into new innovative business it is not well orchestrated, led primarily by purely finance goals, that stall / delay innovation

    Advice to Management

IBasis was a better place to work before, when was driven by technologies / innovation ideas and not by pure financial metrics

    Pros

Collaborative environment, cutting edge voip deployments, adaptive solutions.

    Cons

No room to grow, very low pay vs. Industry standards, bonuses are inconsistent if at all and yearly goals and bonus guidelines are not well defined .

    Advice to Management

Pay according to industry averages and perhaps you'll do a better job at retaining your talent. Define expectations and reward via bonuses instead of parties.

    Pros

Can learn quite a bit on the job as long as you put in extra time. Great training ground for more advanced skill set and knowledge through hands-on access to equipment. Engineers work cooperatively (you have to in this environment) to get things done. If you ask, people are always willing to teach what they know when you can catch some down time. Co-workers are friendly and accepting, but do expect to work hard because there will be too many things on your plate.

    Cons

Older technology and and shrinking margins across the industry. Constant cost cutting. Drive to outsource is the norm despite shoddy results from outsource companies. Minimal to no investment in its people and in the network to make the books look better - this has been happening for a while, i.e. managing the numbers one quarter at a time. Staff is sometimes left to figure out how to install and configure equipment as a result and then train everybody else. Longer term employees are still very dedicated and consistently put in much more than a 40 hours work week. The entrepreneurial spirit no longer exist after KPN took over and took the company private.

    Advice to Management

The companies that excel are the ones that bite the bullet and invests in the future and its people despite the short term challenges. Forget your individual bonuses for a year or so for the better of the company and a bigger return in the future. You will then look like true leaders and will gain the trust of your employees.

    Pros

Some good colleagues remain, although many have left

    Cons

No clear vision where the company is headed. Major disconnect with parent company KPN.

    Advice to Management

Problems start at the top in some cases.

    Pros

The benefits are good, the office environment is relaxed, there are lots of good people working hard at iBasis.

    Cons

Pay is stagnant and promotions are rare. More importantly the focus of the business is very short term, which would be fine if the market was expanding, but it is slowing down. As a consequence we are working harder to achieve the same results year after year. KPN has no plans to invest in the long-term growth of iBasis, so we are just cutting things left and right and it is starting to hurt moral.

    Advice to Management

Put together a plan to differentiate iBasis in our industry or move on.
