I have been working at iBasis full-time

    Pros

The benefits are good, the office environment is relaxed, there are lots of good people working hard at iBasis.

    Cons

Pay is stagnant and promotions are rare. More importantly the focus of the business is very short term, which would be fine if the market was expanding, but it is slowing down. As a consequence we are working harder to achieve the same results year after year. KPN has no plans to invest in the long-term growth of iBasis, so we are just cutting things left and right and it is starting to hurt moral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put together a plan to differentiate iBasis in our industry or move on.

I have been working at iBasis full-time

    Pros

Fast paced environment with a very diverse employee base. Flexible work hours and work from home policy. Really great group of people below Senior management level. Little to no room for growth though

    Cons

The primary business is eroding and they lack a clear strategy and leadership to get to the next level. Doubtful the company will make another five years. Senior Management and KPN are focused on short term financial targets not building a long term survivable business. Company is quickly loosing the top talent and backfilling with junior lost cost resources that may lack the knowledge and skill to design and implement future products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on creating a strategy the employees can get behind and support. All though many are departing quickly there are still a number of very talented people that can turn the company around. Advice to KPN the parent company is change the Senior Leadership quickly

    Pros

Smart people but morale has gone down the tubes

    Cons

No growth opportunities at all, unless you are coming from KPN

I have been working at iBasis full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

iBasis has good people, good culture, and a pleasant work environment.

    Cons

Compensation is sorely lacking, employees are unable to focus as there are too many things on their plates. There is a lack of career path, and lack of guidance in achieving what path may be there.

I have been working at iBasis as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The employees they hire all fit in well with the corporate culture and that is big. The culture is inviting, open, diverse and very employee oriented. As a recruiter I have worked closely with applicants and internal hiring managers. They are very selective who they hire which is a good thing. Also the candidates really like the technology, the company, and the people so I get very positive feedback and it's an easy sell because of the above reasons. People work hard but yet a good work/life balance. There is a lot of community/volunteer activities going on for some great causes and a very positive environment.

    Cons

Salaries are competitive but not always the highest so if you are mostly money driven probably not a great fit. Given that, the benefits are top notch.

    I worked at iBasis

    Pros

Small size (less than 400 employees) international company with market-leading position in the industry.

    Cons

Basically a farm team for KPN up and coming executives. Since their tours of duty are 2-3 years, all decisions are short-term focused and the company has no real long-term strategy except cut costs and limit investment in new technology.
