Pros
Being able to give back to a community full of support was great. For the first few years, the management was good and then declined
Cons
There was bad communication between the staff and the management. Opportunities for change or promotion were very few and favored towards a few.
Advice to Senior Management
Some positive feedback to the staff could go a long way. Better direction and encouragement would be helpful too. Practice the customer service skills promoted by the management.
Pros
Time off package is excellent! You never feel as if you can't have a day off for any reason.
Great central location in Midtown West. Convenient to many restaurants, bars and transportation.
If the above are your only requirements for an engaging and fulfilling career, this is the place for you. If not, please don't even bother. Trust me!
Cons
From the bottom of the totem pole all the way up to upper management, the turnover in this place is astronomical. Because of it, nothing ever gets done...no processes are in place...and accountability is non existent. The employees are all straight college grads and the atmosphere is definitely high school. The nickname for the office is Mean Girls...explains a lot! All in all this company is in serious need of an overhaul. If they ever had a managerial team stay for linger than 6-10months, I'm sure it would get better. I myself have been here almost a year and a half and for that half of year I have been searching for other opportunities to get out of here. Don't bother!!
Advice to Senior Management
Accountability needs to happen somewhere. It is extremely frustrating to constantly have turnover and never any direction or continuity. Work never gets done and ir's a shame.
Pros
iVillage is under the NBC Universal umbrella - Looks great on resume.
Vacation/Sick time is off is great - and it isn't tracked by upper mgmt or HR so feel free to use as much as you like, whenever you like!
Cons
HUGE turnover! This place is like a revolving door. I've seen many people come and go in a relatively short time.
Co-workers are young, immature and very territorial over there work. There is no collaboration or teamwork - extremely dog eat dog.
Management is non existent (see note about HUGE turnover) By the time you prove yourself to your manager, he's already out the door and you have to do it again to someone completely new. Very frustrating.
Unless you're part of the "in crowd" don't expect to move up.
Advice to Senior Management
This division of NBC Universal is an extreme disappointment - focus on employee retention and promotions based on performance and merit rather than picking from the "popular" crowd.
Offer real advancement opportunities.
Pros
It will be part of Comcast, and is currently part of NBC and GE, so there are lots of opportunities to find other jobs in the broader company.
Good benefits
Cons
No accountability at any level.
Very little management direction on the business or strategy.
High turnover, which means very little gets done.
No clear set of processes for getting things approved, implemented, evaluated, modified.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate, communicate, communicate.
