Pros
j2 Global is a stable company that seems to be poised for growth over the next 5 years. They manage their sales well and have a good business model.
Cons
Management seems out of touch with current business operations practices. It seems that the few employees who are invested in the company are the only ones who benefit from its success.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide better incentive for the employees to do a good job and the rewards will be more than anticipated.
Pros
convient office location and some very talented staff
Cons
Vvery time consuming to get new ideas/projects/campaigns--innovative or even just plain necessary--off the ground
Advice to Senior Management
communicate to staff!
Pros
* Abundance of projects to work on
* Professional, respectful, safe place of work
* Fair compensation
* Easy access to management personnel
Cons
Human Resources seems inundated with requests, as their response times can sometimes be quite slow, and they don't always call back when they say they will.
Advice to Senior Management
May need to hire more persons in the human resources department, in order to share the load with the existing HR team.
Pros
close to home, good hours, and the compensation was not too bad. I've had jobs worse than this in my life.
Cons
You will never know until your 90 day review if your performance is good, bad, or average. If you pass the 90 days, it simply means your numbers were good and they will not probably be firing you unless your numbers plummet. if you don't make it past 90 days, don't take it personally - it's because the management has no training program and never will. nobody knows why. actually, the products are good, so they sell themselves, and they may as well just hire people for minimum wage to answer the phones and take orders. they have no business hiring experienced sales professionals like myself to do their dirty work for them. sales management has been there forever and needs a swift kick out the door. Everybody knows it, too. The management eventually fired almost all of the people who were on the team when i was there, including me. We think it's because they knew we didn't respect them. quite sad...we could've done a lot for the company. Lord knows we were all overqualified for our jobs!!
Advice to Senior Management
Fire the sales management and start all over with new. if you can ever do that, things at j2 will start looking up. marketing department is also atrocious so need to replace them too.
Pros
Great opportunity to work with new technologies and learn new things.
Cons
Company is/was in transition. They were acquiring competitors and restructuring the organization constantly. From a filed perspetive, it was very unsettled.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open with the filed about what is going on. Sometimes that is difficult when business negotiations are on-going.
Pros
The office is close to my home. My co workers, casual work environment
Cons
Overall compensation is low for a Company of its size. Middle and senior management lack of respect for 1st level employees, I don’t feel valued.
Management and board members lack of a customer 1st attitude.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more customer and 1st level employee centric. Remember that without your 1st level customer serving employees you would have NO customer base. So treat us with respect and VAULE our experience by paying us a fair wage, as well as rewarding your 1st level employees who have a proven track recorded with a pay raise based on performance and level of work that we must handle.
DO NOT make us feel like we are Indispensable
.
Pros
Great people to be around and work with. You will have life long friendships with sales and Customer Support reps. A masseuse comes on Wednesday to massage you and you have free fruits, soda, and coffee.
Cons
The worst base salary and commission structure on planet earth. You start off making around $10 plus commission and if you don't make quota they will take a huge percentage of your commission away from you. You may only get a 25% payout for your hard work of bring huge revenue into the company. You are reviewed on calls based on low conversion rate which makes no sense since you can have scores in the 90's and have a 20% conversion rate. Working on Hollywood Blvd. is overrated and you will dread coming to work the month of the Academy Awards, don't forget that it's Hollywood and not Beverly Hills. You still have to deal with the bums, crackheads, and weirdos. Oh and when you break monthly team records for sales they give you a mug instead of compensating you with a bonus or raise. They like to give you wine tastings, drum sticks with the company logo and coffee mugs instead of raising your salary for your hard work. If your base was equivalent to $10 an hour you can work there several years and will leave with the exact same base salary...
Advice to Senior Management
Fire yourself since you've been there over 7 years and have the worst communication and leadership skills. Compensate your sales people because they are the true grit to bringing revenue into the company.
Pros
j2 has good hours, good benefits, and the location is cool (Hollywood Blvd.) They also have free food everyday for all employees.
Cons
Management has serious problems.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve your hiring/firing practices. Don't waste the time of experienced salespeople with proven track records of success, by hiring them for revolving-door positions in your company. Obviously you did not need the extra sales manpower when you hired me due to the murky economic forecast, so why did your recruiter waste your company's time looking for another person? And why did you waste my time by hiring another person whom you clearly didn't need?
Pros
Inbound leads are given, hours are good, and good commission plan.
Cons
Commission plan changes all the time. No structure at all. No training at all, it is sink or swim position. Management thinks you are stupid if you can't do a very complication job without training.
Advice to Senior Management
Train the middle management on sales 101. They simply don't know.
Pros
Opportunity to work with a clear leader in its space of hosted or outsourced communications services; great eFax brand, great people
Cons
Benefits are poor, massive turnover and lack of documentation can make day to day work frustrating, senior management focused on cost cutting not investing for future
Advice to Senior Management
invest in the future--don't lose experienced employees
