    Pros

The people! Great tangible benefits/culture! Fun product!

    Cons

The company does not have good growth plans in place to keep employees satisfied and developing appropriately. There is a tendency to string people along with future opportunities that may not come to fruition and/or may not mean very much when given.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While there are SO many great tangible benefits, there should be a better culture around valuing and developing people!

I have been working at kate spade part-time for more than a year

    Pros

When you have a great manager, it makes all the difference in the world. We've had two managers in the store and by far the second is the best. She's motivating, fun and helps you achieve and exceed your goals. She's also a great team-leader helping a multitude of ladies with varied personalities work in sync together. It truly is a team. But the best part is, when you have mom hours and suddenly you need the day off for an emergency, she will always help you find a way (I type this as my child is home sick and corporate is in for a visit.) I also love how our store is organized and I love that every month new items come in so that it's not a boring floor to look at or work with. Yes, the price point is higher than what some might expect, but there's always something for everyone to find to love.

    Cons

You have to sometimes stay on top of your hours, sales and paychecks to make sure that they all equal out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just remember your staff is human, too. To have floor set designed for one store doesn't mean it's going to fit for all stores. When yo used pages for floor set, please have not just pictures of how it's to be laid out, but a description of the item whether by sku, color or name helps especially when working with the wallets and jewelry.

I worked at kate spade full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I was lucky to have a very experienced DM who shared great training and insight as well as some of the best most qualified peers to work alongside. However I have seen in other districts how terrible DM's and in some cases SM's can ruin morale. The company invests in their managers with amazing training and education but they certainly expect their pound of flesh for that.

    Cons

Workload and back of house spaces are inadequate bordering on dangerous. It's hard to fully regulate managers when you have districts that are simply too large or growing too quickly. Also online returns count against store numbers but sales made in store through the website don't add to store totals. This creates unfair stress on managers who are expected to make goals. The goals are unrealistic to the point of laughable, but to be fair, that's pretty consistent in all retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company has some fantastic people and amazing tools for training and development. Unfortunately it takes a few bad managers (area, district or store) to ruin things for a lot of people. Don't be so slow to react. And slow down with the expansion.

I have been working at kate spade full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fantastic career development and growth, great pay and benefits and compelling discount. This company really embraces a supportive collection of core values that they live through daily. Everyone from store teams, corporate partners and District Managers are hands on, available and inspirational. Fantastic place to work and develop your career.

    Cons

People are valued as much as results and experience. Development is a vital part of the culture. Ambition alone will not get you to next level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working hard and remain involved in all aspect of the business.
