Something to do while you are looking for a better job.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Hampton, VA

I have been working at kgs as a contractor for more than a year

ProsThe title about covers it.
I can say that the employees are great to work with.
So far, the medical insurance has taken care of everything it should.

ConsLocal contract Program Director is not respected by employees or customers, and for good reason.
Little Paid Time Off (only 80 hours for first few years, so it takes a month and a half to accrue a day off).
Low pay.
Pay is twice a month, which can complicate budgeting.
Benefits costs doubled from last year.

Advice to Senior ManagementHow much do you know about your local Program Director?

Decent Experience

Directory Services Operator (Former Employee)
Hampton, VA

I worked at kgs full-time

ProsFriendly and helpful HR. My manager was easy to work with, straight forward, and consistent. Good exposure to technology. Good stepping stone to a more lucrative position elsewhere. Good communication from senior management regarding upcoming government contract changes.

ConsAgressive and unpleasant recruiters. All aspects of compensation (salary, paid time off, etc.) were determined by the details of the current government contract. Compensation was initially acceptable but the known details (at that time) of the new contract was lower salaries and less paid time off. Turned out to be accurate.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay talented staff appropriately for better retention.

ProsKGS was a good place to get a start in the contracting business,

ConsSenior management was obsessed with their profit margins on the contract. After all -- the parent is on the NASDAQ.

Advice to Senior ManagementNone. Corporate rides them hard for profitability.

Rope a dope

IT Support (Current Employee)

I have been working at kgs full-time

ProsDuring hiring process the support from personnel in FL and VA was excellent.

ConsIt ended once a local KGS supervisor took over.
Dishonest. Initially disclosed position would be "night shift" for the first few months, and then revealed to be contractually obligated to nightshift for duration of contract (subcontracted to another company)
Poorly organized. Mishandled security clearance information causing 3 week work delay. Stated they would compensate for time, which never happened.
Intimidation. Strongly advised change to a time sheet when 9 hours were entered for an 8 hour day due to daylight savings time. Would not approve time sheet unless changed.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnsure of how KGS sites work, but off site technicians lack a decent support system. I would advise more cognizance of how the remote sites operate so your remote employees don't get taken advantage of.
