I have been working at mBlox full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Pay, Flexible shift and ability to telecommute. Solid fun team oriented company. Truly the work hard, play hard company. Awesome SLT. The CEO is a bull that knows what he wants and how to effectively get it done.

    Cons

No stock Offerings. No true bonus structure. You must be selected on a quarterly basis for a possible $500 bonus. Lack of written process and procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. They know what needs to be done and are in process of getting it done. 1 project at a time.

I have been working at mBlox full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits: 401k match, awesome company outings, extensive PTO for your first year, managers listen to complaints and give you what you ask for, small enough to be heard but large enough to grow. Competitive Salary.

Convenient Location: New Atlanta office is accessible by Marta. Sandy Springs station. Office has tons of onsite perks including: dry cleaning, barber, car wash, oil change, florist, beverage store, and cafeteria(food is good).

New office(January 2014) has brought on a new corporate culture. Everyone is friendly and willing to help you succeed here, just come ready to work.

New CEO has vision and has made changes to make the vision a reality. I can say for the first time in my life, I enjoy coming to work everyday.

    Cons

The technology here is fairly proprietary. Run of the mill employees may find it hard to relate the experience here to future endeavors. If you have to be micromanaged or have tough skin this isn't the place for you. If your looking to just tread water somewhere this also is not the place for you as there are performance metrics that are reviewed constantly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow your bright, up and coming stars a chance to grow here.

Continue to retain your top talent, you almost let a few of your key players go.

I worked at mBlox full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I can't think of anything really good to say about Mblox.

    Cons

    1. They openly discriminate against older workers.
    2. You have no personal time or work life balance at all.
    3. The individuals and groups work against each other.
    4. There are no professional managers there, they all have their own personal agendas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not work for these people, no matter what they promise you. Once you commit, your job description will change and they will start beating you down. I am still in shock from the treatment I received and it was only after I left that I found out that I was not alone. The person who replaced me quit after 2 months.

I worked at mBlox (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Steady Paycheck - also company did have some top-flight individuals working in Network Operations and Client Support

    Cons

No new innovation or products have been introduced in years. Functional groups tend to work against one another. Products tend to be oversold to clients making technical support difficult.

Complete inability to retain top talent, talent that is necessary to promote and execute innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company has left Silicon Valley for Atlanta, GA to personnel costs. Good luck!

    Pros

Some very bright and dedicated teams are at mBlox, the teams in Sweden are excellent. There are some very talented people as well.

    Cons

This is a tough market that has undergone a huge number of changes that mBlox will struggle to compete with. It's a low margin business and it's not a growing market.

I worked at mBlox full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This place can give you great experience in multiple fields if you don't get laid off first that is. The experience you gain will not be to grow at this company but so you can go to a different company and get paid way more then mBlox pays you.

Oh and the people. they are a big pro.

    Cons

So many secrets and lies at this place. All of the good people and talent have left the company or got laid off. Who is running it now are people who do not care about quality work, following the guidelines, or making sure the clients abide by the rules. They just want the $$$ even if it will cause more work or issues in the future. The mangers do not communicate with their staff and in some instances the manager doesn't even help the team or know what some functions do. The Atlanta move is a great big joke. They are loosing money to make the move. They tried to lie and stretch it out so the employees wouldn't start looking for a stable job. The new CEO is just going to drain the company dry and move on. They lay off people because they need to save money but then finance sees big bills for dinners, hotels, and his rent.

I do not expect the company to be around much longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the CEO and consider making the company more about quality again. Laying off everyone with the skills and hiring a bunch of noobs with poor training to take over is just bad practice.

I worked at mBlox full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary, wfh flexibility. Non-management employees competent and nice people trying to do the best job they can.

    Cons

Unrealistic product roadmap. Projects that spiral out of control and literally cost $$$ before getting cancelled entirely. Virtually no one close to customers who understands the market place or product management - no product innovation. Qualified people leave out of frustration so unqualified people stick around and get promoted to their level of extreme incompetence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lose the acting CEO, the third in 5 years who is ineffective and has turned nothing around as well as all other CXO leadership. The "board / investors" have clearly realised there is no path to profitability so is making mBlox work with other companies in their portfolio to take money out of mBlox.

    I worked at mBlox

    Pros

There are some great people and the new CEO (former CFO) is a huge improvement over the previous CEO. The company is finally organized to get new product/solutions out the door and working towards that end.

They had a good sales force that did well considering the lack of new products to sell... but alas they can do little more without new products.

    Cons

Three or four CEOs over the last five years. The CEO from from 2009 to 2011 cut expenses so that the company could be profitable but was unable to get product improvements completed and had little idea on how to get a new product to market. mBlox has operated with an aging technology platform and has not had a new product for years. Numerous upstarts have overtaken mBlox in the area of mobile payments as mBlox focused strictly on premium SMS and enterprise one-way messaging. The CEO that started in 2009 was not good at fostering communication throughout the company and in fact discouraged it with a "need to know" basis. There were numerous employees with extensive backgrounds prior to mBlox that could have helped get new products to market but he failed to learn more about the backgrounds of the existing employees and wasted money on acquisitions of IP that could have easily been developed under the leadership of several existing but under-utilized employees.

mBlox now has tight budget constraints and recently laid-off employees because of falling revenues in the PSMS space. They have several new products that should be released in 2012 but it is unlikely they will be anything revolutionary and will likely be "me-too" products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

mBlox appears to be on the right path after several squandered years under the previous CEO. I wish them luck, they have made changes that would appear to be the best that can be done under the current circumstances. They are doing the best they can with the capital on hand and the falling PSMS revenues.

    I worked at mBlox

    Pros

    - There are several highly competent senior level managers in key roles that you can learn from.
    - They offer a great benefit package (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, stock, PTO)
    - They try to make the work place fun (monthly potlucks, monthly company wide birthday celebrations, etc)

    Cons

    - The industry overall has shifted and opportunities are limited both within the company as well as in the market.
    - For a small company the environment is very bureaucratic
    - Some employees are overexerted while others don't have enough to do
    - Despite their efforts to maintain morale and a lively culture, they are budget constrained

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to hire a CEO that will stick with the company, within the last five years there have been 5 or 6 different CEOs

I have been working at mBlox

    Pros

The change in CEO has brought huge change to the company. People really enjoy working with each other, the silos that existed are getting blown up, people are working on cool new projects in the mobile space, objectives for the company are posted and there's alignment between teams. People laugh and have fun - small enough to know everyone but big enough to have decent perks.

    Cons

Still work to do to get everyone working as a team. Very dispersed organization - Sunnyvale, London, NY, Sweden - makes schedules and communications challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep open to feedback, be up front about the challenges.
