I worked at mFoundry full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

"Startup feel" that involves beer, candy, and extremely casual dress. The mobile sphere is interesting.

    Cons

Work is repetitive, and after understanding your work, it's hard to find new opportunities to learn. The products the company creates are very specific, and borderline proprietary. It's hard to feel that your work is 'useful' for your career; which as a entry/mid-level developer, is a hard pill to swallow.

There's little feedback from seniors, management, and you'll need to be very persistent to get feedback and try to grow your career.

The pay isn't great, but if you don't mind mindless work, a younger environment, and peanut butter pretzels, it can be a decent place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a training program to new employees, frequent feedback, and establish a review that includes a standardized growth plan.

    Pros

The people are amazing and friendly. Very laid back and there to get a job done.

    Cons

Salary is below average. Money is why we work for companies like this, and the more money made in salary the better satisfaction we get from our jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employee's more reason to fel they don't need to look for other employment.

I worked at mFoundry as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

I found the work to be challenging and stimulation. Was working closely with the core development team on core features and platform ports.

Very talented senior development leaders from CTO down
    Fast paced environment
    Fun and challenging technology

    Cons

Company has to be able to respond quickly, so be prepared to turn on a dime

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't really have any advice for management. When I worked for mFoundry it was very much a startup company, and I found (at least externally) that management did an excellent job surfing the inevitable ebb and flow (and occasional breaker) that come with being a startup.

    Pros

Company is doing well, a leader in its particular business sector.

    Cons

Two houses: product and client services

Product: Nice team, but work is rather unchallenging. Looking for a nice/safe job, great place. Looking for challenging technical problems or new development - look elsewhere.

Client services: Not many are held accountable for anything, except that of the developer. QA and management have a pass on missing specifications and everything is dumped/blamed on the engineer and hence hi turnover in such positions. Development is non-existent and is now a support organization. Management is now trying to spin motivational slogans into performance reviews. The way some developers are treated borderline on abuse.

    Pros

Employees are really cool to work with.
Work from home if you want to.
Everyone, including the senior management, is laid back and the work load isn't that bad.

    Cons

Lots of politics within the senior management.
Contractors are not given a full time position even after your performance is exceptional. I saw a lot of contractors being underpaid and let go after a short amount of time.
The company is not really organized and is all over the place.
Its a good place to work for a few months but you cant set any career goals at this company.
The food in the kitchen sucks!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cut out the politics!

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good, taking family into great consideration.

Vacation includes 2 weeks, also get the week between Christmas and New Years off.

Environment is nice. People are friendly and knowledgable. Lots of food available.

    Cons

Only major complaint is the resistance to growth. Company lost some good potential employees due to an unwillingness to hire Full Time.

Company is still small (employee-wise), so career paths are not clearly defined and could cause some stall in advancement opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work. The environment is fantastic and the company is a good place to work. It was enjoyable to go to work everyday. However, be more open to hiring Contractors on Full Time.

    Pros

This is an exciting, fast moving and transformative place to work. Management is open to critique and new ideas about process improvement. Creativity is highly valued and any intelligent, motivated and technically savvy person would be happy to work here. Management is über agile, professional and very cognizant of the importance of keeping highly motivated and intelligent staff. A great place to work.

    Cons

This is not a place for those who want to come to work and have a set process to follow. Processes are evolving and everyone is expected to contribute. May be too much for those who want a more established less demanding atmosphere. This place takes energy, motivation and creativity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay motivated and continue to evolve understanding that this company is moving out of start-up mode. Understand that it is time to let go if some of the day to day involvement you are used to and trust your staff knows what they are doing.

    I worked at mFoundry

    Pros

The people are smart and it's a lot of fun to work there. You work hard, but there is always something fun happening and everyone works as a team. The technology team is really strong and management is down to earth and really interested in making it a great place to work and more importantly, to make it successful and grow the business.

    Cons

In the beginning it was a start-up and that can be tough, because it's early stage. But the company is doing really well and they're really focused on making the best software for banks. It's not a start up anymore, it's a full on software company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. It's a fun place to work and management makes the right decisions, including not being afraid to say goodbye to people who just aren't that good.
