    Pros

Lots of support available during my PhD, but also had autonomy in my role. Overall a fantastic experience.

    Cons

Some complaints from others about relatively low salaries, but seems to offer a good work/ life balance

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at national physical laboratory full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Engaging work, great colleagues, sports and social club, canteen, flexible working and subsidised creche. Cutting edge science supporting quality of life and driving standards forward. Regular appraisal and support for career development.

    Cons

Located in very expensive part of south-west London. Salaries do not stretch as well in the immediate area so many people face long commute.

    Advice to Management

Consider subsidised travel scheme in addition to the range of subsidies already offered.

    Pros

I worked at national physical laboratory as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart and very friendly colleagues Good work-life balance Very nice environment to work in (building and grounds/ bushy park) After work sport teams and after work social life

    Cons

Lack of training and development Pay Management had very little time for me Left to self manage and find my own work as an intern

    Advice to Management

I would like to see a longer term view of promoting good science, rather than pleasing Serco bosses/targets.

    Pros

Good office surrounded by a very nice royal park. Slow-paced working environment, very relaxing, which gives you very good work-life balance, more time for your family and your own business.

    Cons

In some teams, horrible bosses who have no skill in management people and have no technical knowledge or very out-dated technical knowledge in their fields. Your promotion and apraisal depends a huge deal on your exposure to the managers. If you get along well with the managers and expose yourself to senior managers then you can have promotion, even when you could not complete a single simple task for the whole year! Too many politics and beauracracy. Some bosses have no idea of flexible working hours, working from home. They need to see you in the office 9-5 even you have absolutely nothing to do for the whole day!

    Advice to Management

Chop off mid-managers who do nothing but talking big words! There are many of them!
