    I had a great experience at oDesk

    ProsWhile at oDesk I had the pleasure of interacting with extremely smart and talented co-workers. There is a true sense of purpose to the work they are doing. They office perks (food, drinks, etc.) are pretty great too.

    ConsI did not really have any negative experiences while I was there. Much of the company does work from home once a week so if you are constantly in need of structure you may not find it here.

    Advice to Senior ManagementDon't change anything

    Transcription work for slave wages and inability to control non-hourly payment

    ProsWorking from home and at your own discretion is nice.

    ConsFor transcription specifically, the payment rate is incredibly low because of the competition from workers willing to work for peanuts. Fixed rate contracts allow the employer to pay or not pay at his or her discretion with no recourse. With all the competition from other similar companies and workers, I can't see the pay rate and amount of work going anywhere except down.

    ProsFlexibility ... you can find a lot if options. I love the profiles, the feedback system, and the tests. Have connected with great clients.

    ConsYou are a little fish in a global pond. It can be difficult to compete with other contractors overseas who will (and can) work for pennies.

    Shady dealings on your own terms

    ProsIndependence, flexibility, be your own boss.

    ConsThe people you work contract with are exploitative and expecting a lot of work for zero money. You need to defend yourself and turn down a lot of crap in order to make it here.

    Advice to Senior ManagementUse a tiered system for quality. I don't want to vie for space with the $3 and $5 bids from people who provide low-quality shmaltz and it gives the employers false expectations.

    Fast growing company with exciting disruptive business model

    Pros- Fast-growing company, therefore they hire aggressively
    - Very exciting disruptive market
    - Less then 100 people in HQ, therefore very personable and non-bureaucratic
    - Very data-driven, all decisions are based on numbers and past performance
    - Good work-life balance
    - Smart professional people with good experience
    - Friendly environment

    Cons- No real mentorship for new hires
    - No exact KPIs set for the performance of new hires

    Advice to Senior Management- Make sure your new hires get good managers who mentor them and make sure they are doing the best to do successful in their role
    - Set exact KPIs to measure performance of the new employees/contractors
