    Pros

    thinkorswim's platform is arguably the best platform for technical analysis tools and trade execution, unparalleled to none

    Cons

    Even though thinkorswim was acquired in 2009, Tom Sosnoff is still delivering innovative trading ideas for active trader to enjoy

    Company (TD) Does Not Value Employees

    Pros

    The coworkers were very friendly. The company provided time at work to study for the Series 7 and 63.

    Cons

    There is no room to move within the company. I was informed that I had to stay at my position for an indefinite period of time, even though another department was interested in hiring me.

    Also, lots of other departments will cold transfer calls to tech support, even if there is no tech issue. A large amount of the calls to tech support are complaints.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If an employee wants to move internally within the company to a position with a pay increase, and the managers of that department want to hire the employee, then please let that employee get the position. Instead of offering an external applicant the job that the internal applicant is interested in, please offer the external applicant a job for the position that the internal employee no longer wants to stay at.

    Pros

    Very smart workers who have decades of experience trading on the floor of the CBOE. You will learn an immense amount about trading from the very best and brightest in the business. Casual clothing, very entrepreneurial and friendly environment. Amazing lunch is provided each day and free transportation to and from work is another great perk.

    Cons

    It is a small office that is not trying to expand quickly, so finding an "in" is very difficult unless you transfer from another TD office or are related to someone working there.

    Pros

    Great casual atmosphere. The people are great. You get free lunch which is nice. There is no dress code. New ideas and technology are a top priority.

    Cons

    Now that it is TD Ameritrade things are changing a lot but it can still be hard to get time off. Many people work 60+ hours a week while others work 40 yet they are paid the same. 30% of the people do about 90% of the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Employees need a better work/life balance. Things have changed a lot for the better regarding this but those putting in all of the time should get some sort of raise or bonus for all of the extra effort. Those that aren't working/slacking off don't deserve bonuses.

    Pros

    Intresting projects in the investments field;
    Employees have full and free access to company's investing tools;
    Generous compensation and overtime pay.

    Cons

    A lot of pressure with neverending stream of product launches;
    Fear-based leadership by the CEO;
    Competence levels of employees is all over the board.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It would be beneficial to move away from very tight-deadline launch based system and rather concentrate on product quality and employee satisfaction.

    Pros

    If you want to learn to actively manage money than there's no better place to work. Merged with TD Ameritrade. They seem to be heading in the right direction.

    Cons

    The merger obviously spawned change both good and bad, but is too slow for my tastes. Still need to weed out some of previous management. Most EC's believe the opportunity to sell the education is dwindling and will eventually disappear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Some upper management still needs to go. Lead flow at Investools is FUBAR. Need more feedback from emplyees who aren't afraid to keep it real.

    Former Employee - Investment Coach in Draper, UT

    Pros

    Teaching and coaching others on a wide range of investment topics forces a lot of learning. This learning is reinforced by trading yourself on a monthly basis or more frequently. The topics covered ranged from a superficial look fundamental analysis to an in-depth look at technical analysis. Advanced certifications such as CMT chartered market technician or CFA chartered financial analyst were encouraged and you were reimbursed for the cost of obtaining such designations. Knowing where to find and how to use information found on the internet was also required and continues to be a very useful skill. One final benefit you can in contact with a lot of co-workers with whom you could form a strong network.

    Cons

    Shrinking industry, limited upside, low quality of upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Control the sales force and the private contractors on the road.

    Cons

    compensation sucks. They like to over load employees on work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look at who the hard workers are. Too many lazy employees being kept and good hard working employees let go.
