    Pros

Great benefits, a bonus twice a year and incentives.

    Cons

Negativity and buck passing from the top down.

    Advice to Management

Work on improving employee moral. The company offered amazing benefits and good pay, but there was so much negativity and stress it made working there hell on earth.

    Pros

good communication, people are generally on the same page so improvements are quick and supported. No level consciuosness.

    Cons

split locations can be awkward, and the occasional person is a poor fit for the culture yet stays and makes life bad for others

    Advice to Management

listen to the direct managers when rating employees instead of changing the ratings of the employee 4 levels below you

I worked at tw telecom full-time

    Pros

I worked for tw telecom for several years in various positions before it was acquired by Level3. There was a good overall work environment in most groups.

    Cons

There never really seemed to be enough people for the amount of work. Each group I was in seemed to be understaffed and convincing management to hire additional personnel was difficult. The starting was lower for most people too. There were some opportunities for moving to other positions in different groups but individual managers were given too much control over when you could move. Some managers told employees that they would have to wait several months after being offered a position in a new group.

    Advice to Management

Don't sell to Level3 (oops too late)!! Listen to employees before making changes that effect the whole organization - too often changes that impact everyone weren't even mentioned until they were implemented.

    Pros

Exposure to a variety of technologies. Hands-on installation and troubleshooting of Cisco Metro-Ethernet equipment.

    Cons

Grew out of a cable company and still has some of those ideas of how to run a network. Values quantity over quality.

    Advice to Management

Level 3 has higher standards and values. I expect everything is on course for success.

    Pros

Nice facilities in a great location. Salaries are on the average side (but they will try to low ball you in negotiations). Benefits were very good, but expensive.

    Cons

Watch out for bait & switch hiring practices; people were hired to fill one position only to find that they had completely different responsibilities upon arrival. Example: hired to do corporate work but switched to sales work prior to start. Company organized along the lines of corporate fiefdoms where you "belong" to your manager & can be shifted about, traded or exchanged w/o notice or input. Employees can be hired or fired, promoted or demoted, etc. w/o any sort of accountability.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at what your management is doing. Cut out the office politics and satrapies so that employees work for whom they are hired & are judged accordingly. The very highest levels of management seem to be disconnected from the company and its employees. The next level seems to view the company and its employees as means to further their own (rather than their company's objectives). So much potential; so much wasted effort.
