I have been working at tw telecom for less than a year

    Pros

The company treats its employees well. My manager is very flexible and easy-going and seems to care about a healthy work-life balance. Company is stable and profitable.

    Cons

The biggest potential con of working here is the impending merger with Level 3. While they've been saying the right things, Level 3 is infamous for slash and burn acquisitions and large-scale layoffs. Even if I'm retained, I'm not sure I want to work for a company that seems to treat its employees like cattle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'd say find a better suitor, but it's far too late for that.

    Pros

    Close to home, Pay, Bonus

    Cons

Head IT people don't really care or know much about QA. Most testing is done by consultants with the twtelecom QA doing superficial testing.

I have been working at tw telecom full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Corporate Mission is great, the values to make a difference are inspiring. Love working with the Network Operations Center, Customer Project Managers, and most of my local co-workers. We are a great team, and without the manager and director we would be a great effective team.

    Cons

Local management is sub-par, micromanages employees to death. Last minute schedule changes, you are expected to work all day then come back in for a Scheduled Maintenance over night. Constant occurrence, multiple times though out the week NO WORK LIFE BALANCE! Browbeating good long term employees until they just give up and find employment elsewhere. This is the situation since 2013 due to complete operations management change. Do not see any improvement from upper executive management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pay and benefits are not worth the drama and chaos. Nor having management treat you as highschool freshman.

I have been working at tw telecom full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Company is stable financially. Good national sales program. Level 3 merger will enhance national network capabilities.

    Cons

Sales leadership is lacking professionalism and integrity from regional down. If you want the sale's leads that come in, you better be bringing coffee and meals to the management team. When making your sales calls over the phone, be prepared to duck so that you don't get hit with objects flying past your cubicle. The place is an Animal House! Not for the professional. Relatives of GM get special perks. Don't get fooled by the "Family culture", description on your interview. Bottom line if you are not placed on the sales team with the women Director, you will be an outcast. Be ready to be verbally insulted and treated like a step child.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to examine the perception in your Manhattan sales office.

I have been working at tw telecom full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent compensation package and benefits. They reward people for longevity and invest in their employees. They maintain and understand the life-work balance and are very supportive of people with families.

    Cons

QA process is a bit stifling from a development perspective. The company seems to be a bit top heavy as it has quite a few directors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the excellent work-life balance after Level 3 acquisition is complete. Don't forget those values.
