    I have been working at uBid as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    Great people, God loving, Decent benefits, nice vacation policy, good for self starters.

    Cons

    Not for the weak of stomach, too many owners over the years, some management that have been through the company did not have the right experience in a start up environment or ecommerce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    With new CEO in place, and President and COO keep the momentum going, listen to your employees, really listen. Show that you care even when times are rough. There is something here, or it would not been around for so long.

    uBid has no accountability and no competence from the management level up.

    I have been working at uBid as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    Most people below management level are very nice and fun to work with.

    Cons

    -Revolving door - uBid uses temps almost exclusively for customer service, only about one in five will be made permanent.
    -Management and upper level positions have been promoted to their level of incompetence. Business decisions are made with no announcement or warning to lower level employees who are responsible for communicating with customers when problems occur.

    I have been working at uBid full-time

    Pros

    The potential of the company is great and has no ceiling for growth. Any employee with the drive and talent could have a great long-lasting career. The company also has a great atmosphere to work in. The entire staff for the most part all work seamlessly together.

    Cons

    Any salary employee interested in joining must have the stomach and patience to handle a start up company mentality. The days will be long and the workload will seem to never end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    All great companies have a foundation of core employees to build around. The thought that any identified core employee can easily be replaced is unfathomable. Stop letting the talented employees with knowledge of the business walk away.

    Pros

    Executive management is lazy and you can fly under the radar and still get paid.

    Cons

    There is no leadership at uBid. Overpaid executives,who would be lower level managers elsewhere, are trying to run a business. Decisions seem to be made based on emotion and it seems that most of my colleagues work in fear. uBid is constantly facing lawsuits so it seemed at anytime everything would come crashing down. Most of the stuff uBid sells is leftover junk that Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. are trying to throw away. There is no accountability at this company either, only scapegoats for the terrible decisions made by the leaders.

    Pros

    * They hire everybody who the temp agency sends, no interviews. If you just need a job while you look for something else, this is the perfect spot.

    * Free coffee and creamer.

    * Indoor plumbing.

    * Working electricity.

    * Ceilings and carpets.

    Cons

    * Training consists of 2 days listening in on phones, with zero instruction. Most hires are terminated within a few weeks for incorrectly doing something they were never trained for.

    * Don't trust anybody, no matter how friendly they may seem. Telecommuting positions are coveted, but limited, so workers sabotage each other in the hopes of getting one. Top-performers have big targets on their backs.

    * You're either "in," or your job is in jeopardy. Management's buddies are given monitoring privileges, which is often used to report activity as minor as bathroom breaks or coffee refills. These individuals are also exempt from most rules of conduct.

    * Document everything or you will be quickly fired. Managerial accountability is nil, so if any snafu takes place and you can't prove it wasn't your fault, you *will* be fired.

    * Be prepared for legal threats from customers... UBid almost never cuts off dishonest or unethical vendors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest in employee training, hold vendors accountable, enforce rules evenly, and focus on productivity over personal relationships.

    I worked at uBid full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great location near Chicago without needing to commute into the city!
    Received generous monthly bonuses and was able to come and go as needed to take care of family needs.

    Cons

    Difficulty having projects approved for correct enhancements.
    Unstable work environment due to poor company financials causing employees to work in fear.
    Ever changing landscape and support teams attributed to repeated layoffs.
    Lack of expertise in many positions due to high attrition rate.

    I have been working at uBid full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Quiet place to work with all of the empty seats.

    Cons

    Leadership lacks vision & focus, lack of direction passed down to employees, lack of business acumen throughout all levels, everyone for themself mentalitly, every employee has an inflated title. The company overall is very unstable and employees work in fear of losing their job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Define who you want to be and follow through. There is very little talent within the company to accomplish what is necessary. Not clear on why most employees are still being paid, they could accomplish more by staying home and sleeping. No one seems to have the drive to suceed (bankers hours, laziness, and lack of passion)
