Pros – Excellent opportunities. Good benefits and programs including company investment and retirement. Strong commitment to health and safety. Ongoing training is available and encouraged. Consistent review and improvement process for employees. Company is committed to growth and providing the best service to its customers. Engaged in community and charity. Excellent internship program.
Cons – Corporate reorganization causing many locations to close or relocate.
Advice to Senior Management – Telecommuting is an excellent way to preserve key positions in certain market places where reorganization is occurring.

Pros – Unlimited opportunity to earn money as an account rep. Good 401K, average healthcare benefits, stable parent company.
Cons – Company has made so many organizational/policy changes they have forgotten about the customer. They have so many rules about what qualifies as a "good" order it has pushed many good customers away. I wonder if they have anaylized how much business has been lost?? Centralized functions leave smaller markets (both customers & xpedx employees) feeling like distant cousins. Individuals working in centralized locations in support positions are stressed and expected to cram 60 hours worth of work into 40. Commission plans for sales are complicated and continually changing. No expense reimbursments for outside reps and the company won't pay employee until customer pays.
Advice to Senior Management – This company has too much upper management and ineffective "strategic" positions. Quit creating so many of these positions and concentrate on the employees that actually service the customer. It's not complicated, it's distribution.

Pros – Standard benefits, good leadership, stable financial company.
Cons – Depending on position, long hours to accomplish job. Losing good people due to personality conflicts. Benefits shrink each year and cost more.
Advice to Senior Management – Compensate people more fairly.

I have been working at xpedx full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The major medical benefits are probably slightly above average. The 401(k) is also probably slightly above average as the parent company (International Paper) seems to be awash in cash. Be aware however that the benefits vary depending on your position. Those in higher management and marketing positions enjoy a much healthier retirement benefit than those working more “front line” positions.
Cons – The organization is very bureaucratic and seems to issue policy statements and initiatives that are geared more toward employing those responsible for those statements and with more of an eye to defending future litigation than to advancing the goals of the organization. The direction of the company seems to change frequently without changing at all. It could be a function of the size of the organization and the changing nature of its core businesses but presents more as a lack of leadership and a lack of vision. Consequently employees appear less engaged and are, frankly, seldom asked to engage. It is a very top-down driven company.
Advice to Senior Management – Upper management is faced with a rapidly changing core, or base, business and as a result seems to be caught in a spiral of cutting to improve the bottom line (including moving service jobs overseas where – presumably – labor costs are cheaper). And when one series of cuts fails to have the desired effect it cuts some more. It is similar to the argument going on nationally – can you cut your way to prosperity or is a more prudent approach to spend and invest for future growth? It is not (and this is driven probably in no small part or maybe even exclusively by its parent’s corporate personality) an organization that encourages creativity or a sense of entrepreneurship. It does not foster any sense of teamwork or shared vision or goals. Management needs to be less top-down and more creative.

Pros – You have a very large product offering with many locations to service our customers. We are owned by a very large parent company, International Paper.
Cons – You have to like change. Constant change. It can be a roller coaster ride with it's ups and downs.

Pros – Deep line of products, Many great people to work with. Pretty good benefits package - health, 401K. Major industry player. Going to be around.
Cons – Ever changing policies and comp plans (usually not for the better). Easy to get lost in the shuffle as it is a big company.
Advice to Senior Management – Try to treat people more fairly on comp plans and commissions.

Pros – A subsidiary of International Paper.
Cons – Lack of direction and void of leadership that understands the changing market place. Lots of lip service but no positive action. Revolving door at the top has crippled some segments of the business.
Advice to Senior Management – Rebrand/rename the company and leverage the International Paper name to increase awareness of what your capabilities are. The current name does nothing for business. Invest in competent management talent. The fact that one particular division has failed to turn a profit in 11 years speaks directly to the fact that you don't understand the business that you profess to be in. Either commit or quit! Stop the revolving door of upper management and sales people and focus on the real issues that keep the company from reaching it's goals. (

I have been working at xpedx
Pros – The people are great. Good benefits. If you're not interested in career development, this is a great company. Employees are treated well, the time off policies are very employee-centered.
Cons – Limited opportunities for advancement. Little flexibility with office hours (flex time); company's HQ has flex time in the summer, but working from home (even when an employee has the means to), is almost always discouraged. If an employee needs to go out on FLMA leave, getting approval is akin to pulling teeth. You have to call 3 different companies just to start the process. Literally 3 different companies.
Advice to Senior Management – Career advancement isn't encouraged by management-- with some managers, its discouraged.
