I have been working at xpedx full-time for less than a year

    Pros

work-life balance, minimum workload and flexible work hours

    Cons

Been hired for 4.5 months and have 0 direction from management team on what my role is supposed to be. The total hours of work I have done is probably less than a week. Leaders spend a lot of time talking but not executing. Company is too big that the management team doesn't know what employees do.

the merger was good but also a complete disaster. both companies rushed into the merger and now trying to figure out the new direction and new teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand what employees actually do. Consider having training manuals if applicable.

They closed all 130 retail stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at xpedx full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Committed co-workers and colleagues. Safe work environment and good company commitment to safety.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for advancement. No training or training support. Vague company direction. Lack of local, regional and national leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to determine who we want to be as a company, share this plan with the employees, and then drive all activities to achieve those goals. Remain committed to those goals, fund their achievement and don't change course mid-stream.

Liked the people and culture of the organization. The atmosphere is caring and open to help each employee succeed. Xpedx allows for quick collaboration and learning throughout the organization with a lot of industry experience available to pull into any project.

    Cons

I have been working at xpedx full-time for more than a year

    Pros

People are genuinely cordial, well meaning individuals. Supervisors seem to be fair with their staff. Lots of coffee at the office, relatively well regarded company in the industry.

Benefits are relatively typical, but not bad.

    Cons

Management doesn't understand why they are losing market share, and is trying to "reinvent" the company in order to compete. Market is moving way too fast for a stodgy old school approach. This means that if you are in sales you don't have the tools that customers are gravitating towards, and your opportunities for success are diminished.

Merger may be a disaster for the future of the company and investors in it, because there is no way for a company with this amount of overhead to capitalize on synergies and now the company will have debt, which it previously did not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to live in the "now." Having capabilities in the future does not get you customers in the present. Speed is more critical than anything in logistics and distribution. Customers don't wait, and if they do, they go elsewhere.

I worked at xpedx full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pretty good benefits such as 401K, Medical, vacation time, holidays, sick days, however could soon be changing due to merger with competitor Unisource

    Cons

no longer customer focused, local managers scared for their jobs, only do what corporate tells them, no leadership, just make excuses to employees about decisions that are made, poor computer system, difficult to do a good job, management favors certain employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with employees, focus on the customer even though you think you don't have to. respect employees and try to be leaders

I have been working at xpedx as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The support system around you is fantastic - Nothing I've seen before in my past companies. Team members and managers are there to back you up and support you whenever needed. Extremely nice campus with great amenities.

    Cons

There appear to be a few bottlenecks when it comes to IT Processes, and some of the technologies used are a little out of date. Also, some of the IT project manager appear to be very limited in their knowledge and scope of IT process, department responsibilities, etc. (This can be extremely frustrating).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to have open door policies, and encourage your team members to take on new challenges and projects
