Facebook Top Tech Company 3 Years Running; Riverbed Technology And Google Round Out Top 3
Glassdoor released its fifth annual Employees’ Choice Awards, a list of the 50 Best Places to Work for 2013 and Facebook took top spot as the #1 Best Place to Work across all industries for a second year – the company received a 4.7 rating (out of a possible 5) among employees throughout the past year. The social network, now serving a billion people, has now also been recognized as the top tech employer for three consecutive years.
More than 20 tech companies were selected as Best Places to Work including companies like Riverbed Technology (4.5), Google (4.3), National Instruments (4.2) and LinkedIn (4.1). There were two tech newcomers to the list this year: Akamai (4.1) and Workday (4.0)

Tech Industry Comparison Highlights:
- Most Improved Tech Companies: eBay and Amazon tie for “most improved,” with both companies increasing their rating +.6 over last year to a 3.5 rating this year. SAP receives a 3.9 rating this year, up from 3.4 last year, while AOL climbed to 3.5 this year from 3.0 last year.
- Top 5 Tech CEOs: National Instruments CEO James Truchard and SAP co-CEOs Bill McDermott & Jim Hagemann received 100% approval ratings this year, followed by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg (99%) and Rackspace’s A. Lanham Napier (98%). Rounding out the top five is Salesforce’s Marc Benioff with a 96% approval rating.
- Most Improved Tech CEOs: Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer is this year’s most improved CEO with his approval ratings climbing to 46% this year from 29% last year. Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam climbed to 56% from 40% in 2011. Plus, eBay CEO John Donahoe’s approval rating increased to 81% in 2012, up from 66% last year.
