I have been working at Chicago School of Professional Psychology full-time (More than 5 years)

      Pros

Salary is stable and benefits are very good. The school allows for academic freedom and input from the faculty on a variety of issues that affect the progress of the institution. The engaged-practitioner model is upheld and most faculty and staff include opportunities to work in the community through service projects as a component in their annual review. Diversity initiatives are continually solid and progressing to meet 21st century demographics and socio-economic issues.

      Cons

Somewhat unstable upper management as the school has many VPs that have come and gone over the years. Dean positions also do not have longevity. The school is still very young and needs to iron out some institutional policies regarding workload, diversity, shared governance, and other job satisfaction factors. Merit pay is typically offered, but not guaranteed every year. Although faculty have some say regarding the institution, the school has a very top-down mentality when instituting new and mandatory policy.

      Advice to Management

Consider a shift in the current department chair roles. Most universities switch them out to give other faculty opportunities to lead their department and provide a fresh perspective. Stop hiring high lever administration who are disconnected from the institution's goals and come with an exorbitant salary. Acknowledge high producing faculty and staff with opportunities to advance and/or other incentives to support and continue their work.
